The jaw plant was a species of sizable carnivorous plant that was native to the planet of Kashyyyk. These plants employed an airborne chemical substance to entice prey onto their expansive traps. Once an animal stepped onto the trap, it would rapidly clamp shut, initiating the digestive process. Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis faced jaw plants during his mission aimed at re-establishing the Jedi Order.
In the shadowy, humid Shadowlands of Kashyyyk, the carnivorous jaw plants thrived, preying on unfortunate creatures. These plants featured wide, veined traps that extended horizontally from stout stalks. To attract prey, they released an airborne chemical that stimulated the olfactory receptors of nearby animals, creating the false impression of food. Cal Kestis, a human, likened the plant's scent to that of jogan fruit. When a creature ventured onto a trap, the jaws would swiftly close, beginning the process of digestion and consuming the prey in its entirety. However, a captive wielding a lightsaber could readily escape a jaw plant's grasp.
During Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis's secret mission to rebuild the Jedi Order, he and the droid BD-1 encountered jaw plants while undertaking their expedition to reach the summit of the Origin Tree on Kashyyyk. Throughout their journey, Kestis utilized the plants' traps as platforms for jump maneuvers, swiftly leaping between them to avoid being ensnared. If trapped, he could cut his way free using his lightsaber. After BD-1 scanned a deceased jaw plant, Kestis remarked on the fascinating characteristics of this species.

The debut of jaw plants occurred in the 2019 video game titled Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
