The Liberation of Kashyyyk represents an operation that took place during the Galactic Empire's reign. Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan, embarked on this mission to the planet of Kashyyyk to locate Tarfful. While searching for the Wookiee chieftain, Kestis encountered Saw Gerrera along with his Partisans, ultimately agreeing to assist in the liberation of captured Wookiees from the Imperial Refinery.
Following the revelation of his identity as a Jedi in hiding, [Cal Kestis](/article/cal_kestis], a padawan, and [Cere Junda](/article/cere_junda], a former knight, initiated a quest to reestablish the Jedi Order. As part of their research concerning the Zeffonians, they sought to find Tarfful, a Wookiee chief and an old acquaintance of Eno Cordova, in order to acquire crucial information.
Saw Gerrera spearheaded his Partisans in an effort to support the Wookiees present on Kashyyyk. The planet faced a blockade imposed by multiple Imperial-class Star Destroyers. During an assault on an Imperial landing zone, the Empire deployed TIE/ln space superiority starfighters, AT-ATs, AT-STs, and Imperial Troop Transports. Cal's group made their entrance amid the ongoing conflict, deciding to lend their assistance. He commandeered an AT-AT, inflicting damage on numerous Imperial forces. After securing an Imperial Landing pad, the AT-AT was disabled by a crashing Zeta-class Heavy Cargo Shuttle. Saw and his forces met with Cal's group, and Cal agreed to help them raid on the nearby Imperial Refinery while still searching for Tarfful.
Saw directed his troops to launch a direct assault on the facility, seizing control of cutters to breach the refinery's defenses. Simultaneously, Cal infiltrated the facility to liberate the prisoners, engaging in combat with Stormtroopers and local wildlife, including Wyyyschokk. While navigating through the facility, Cal encountered several Purge troopers lying in wait, but managed to overcome them. Following the liberation of the Wookiee prisoners, he reunited with Saw's forces on the rooftop. Despite being surrounded, Cal triumphed over the attacking Imperial forces, leading Saw to declare victory over the Empire. Subsequently, Saw extended an invitation to Cal to join his Partisans, but Cal declined, citing his need to complete his own mission. Mari Kosan then met with Cal, agreeing to find Tarfful for him. Cal then left for Zeffo while Saw's forces occupy the refinery.
During Cal's imprisonment under the Haxion Brood syndicate, the Second Sister and Ninth Sister augmented the Imperial presence, nearly decimating the Partisans who were searching for Cal. The Partisans fell back into the Shadowlands, before Gerrera eventually fled offworld with much of his forces while Mari and others stayed to continue helping the Wookiees.
Despite the Partisans' retreat in the face of Imperial reinforcements, the mission to liberate the enslaved Wookiees at the refinery achieved its objective.
Five years after the conflict at the refinery, Cal Kestis' heroic act was remembered by Bode Akuna, who during a conversation with Kestis, mentioned how he stole an Empire's walker during the confrontation and freed the imprisoned Wookiees.
The Kashyyyk mission made its initial appearance in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released in 2019.
