Sharks from Jekara constituted a shark species that was native to the icy planet of Jekara, located in the Mid Rim, and they possessed the ability to detect blood in the waters. During 3 ABY, Lady Domina Tagge from the Tagge Corporation dispatched the unconventional archaeologist Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra along with the smuggler Sana Starros to collect intelligence regarding the re-emerging criminal organization Crimson Dawn, as well as other rival entities of the Tagge Corporation, at an auction organized by Crimson Dawn on Jekara. Tagge cautioned the pair about the other criminal groups, drawing a comparison between them and the Jekaran sharks.
The initial reference to Jekaran sharks occurred within the eleventh issue of the Star Wars: Doctor Aphra comic series from 2020. Alyssa Wong authored the issue, which Marvel Comics released on June 30, 2021.
