Jerba

A jerba was a four-legged, shaggy animal that inhabited the desert planet of Tatooine.

Biology and appearance

Some considered the jerba, a smooth-haired creature, to be unattractive. This species of shaggy, four-legged animals could be found in arid desert regions, specifically on the planet of Tatooine. Jerbas were known to produce milk.

History

A jerba's head (right) was featured among Jabba's trophies.

Within the galaxy, a group of jerba farmers existed, raising the animals for their milk and meat. They were also sometimes used as mounts. Han Solo, a known smuggler, once smuggled a breeding pair of jerbas off Tatooine for a private buyer, despite finding them repulsive. Tethers for both jerbas and banthas were located outside of Tosche Station in Anchorhead, an area frequented by these cautious creatures. Jabba Desilijic Tiure displayed a mounted jerba head, along with a tauntaun head and other hunting prizes, on the wall of his palace on Tatooine. During the New Republic era, Senator Grelka Sorka's prize show-jerba was held as a hostage to force her to vote against an attack on the Imperial remnant at Jakku. Jerba hides were suitable for making leather, and Leia Organa occasionally wore boots crafted from this material.

Behind the scenes

The first appearance of a jerba was in the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
