Anchorhead, a modest settlement, could be found on the desert world of Tatooine. It functioned as a nexus, connecting it to other cities across the planet, including Mos Eisley.
Around the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Tusken Raiders population grew substantially, leading them to launch assaults on the perimeters of smaller settlements like Anchorhead.
During 9 BBY, Obi-Wan Kenobi made daily trips to Anchorhead riding an eopie to board transportation to his job at Tibidon Station. There, he processed meat sourced from a deceased tibidon sand whale. At the end of the day, the transport would return him to Anchorhead, where he cared for his eopie before riding back to his cave. On one occasion, as Kenobi prepared to depart from Anchorhead, Owen Lars confronted him about his continued efforts to protect Lars' nephew, Luke Skywalker. Lars believed Kenobi's involvement would lead Luke to the Dark side of the Force, similar to his father, Anakin Skywalker. After Lars left, two Inquisitors from the Galactic Empire arrived, searching for a Jedi named Nari. The Third Sister began to threaten the observing townspeople, which annoyed her companion, the Fifth Brother. A woman asserted that the Empire lacked authority on Tatooine, prompting the Third Sister to sever her hand with her lightsaber. The Third Sister then focused on Lars, who was in the crowd. She taunted him, announcing that she would kill his family if no one provided information about the Jedi. The Fifth Brother intervened to stop her. Later, the Inquisitors succeeded in killing Nari and displayed his body in the center of Anchorhead for all to see.
Some time later, Reva Sevander, formerly the Third Sister, returned to Anchorhead after her expulsion from the Inquisitorius. She sought to find and eliminate Luke Skywalker, having discovered he was the son of Anakin, the Jedi who had embraced the dark side and murdered her fellow younglings a decade prior. At a water stand operated by Dardin Shull, the foreman of Tibidon Station, Groff Ditcher, cut in line and took a cup of water, challenging Shull to speak up if he had an issue. Sevander, nearby, sarcastically quipped that she had something to say, leading Ditcher to tell her to wait her turn. Sevander responded by using the Force to spill his water. Eventually, Sevander discovered the location of the Lars homestead. Shull later entered the Anchorhead General Store, where Lars and Skywalker were, to inform them about his encounter with Sevander and her knowledge of their whereabouts.
Years afterward, in 0 BBY, before deciding to accompany him on his journey to Alderaan, Skywalker offered to take Kenobi to Anchorhead. This decision was made prior to the murder of his aunt and uncle by the Empire. During this period, an Imperial Army installation, Fort Ironhand, was established near Anchorhead. The installation was under the command of Captain [Kosh] and the 68th Legion. The local rebel cell destroyed it before the Battle of Hoth.
In A New Hope, Luke asks his uncle, Owen Lars, for permission to visit his friends in Anchorhead. A deleted scene shows Luke with Biggs Darklighter, who later fought alongside Luke in the Battle of Yavin. These scenes were shot in Sidi Jemour in Djerba, Tunisia.
Anchorhead made its canonical debut in the episode "Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine" of the Disney+ live-action series The Book of Boba Fett, which premiered on January 5, 2022.
