Karnis birds were a species of warbling bird that could be found on both the planet Tenoo and its large moon, Dedoon. These birds were characterized by their chirping sounds, green plumage, black eyes, and a distinctive blue and orange pattern adorning their wings. In the year 232 BBY, Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar and Lys Solay happened to pass a Karnis bird while traversing a Tenoo river on speeders; however, Solay remained unaware of its presence. Subsequently, during a flight training exercise in a Jedi Vector starship above the large moon, Solay's attention was captured by a group of these birds, which she was seeing up close for the very first time. Nash Durango, the pilot, had to issue a warning to prevent her from crashing into a boulder.
Later in that same year, Brightstar, Solay, and the Jedi youngling Nubs observed a flock of Karnis birds flying past as they traveled by train on Tenoo, and they commented on the planet's stunning natural beauty and diverse wildlife. While in pursuit of the bounty hunter Ansen Strung, the trio of younglings journeyed to the opposite side of a forest alongside Strung's sibling, Senna Strung, and they flew in formation with some of these birds while riding speeder bikes.
The initial appearances of Karnis birds were in "Get Well Nubs" and "Squadron," which served as the opening segments for the third and sixth episodes of the animated show Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. Both of these episodes were launched on May 4, 2023. The name of the birds was first revealed in "Squadron".
