Lys Solay is a character created for the animated television show Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, with Juliet Donenfeld providing her voice. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Donenfield auditioned for the role of Solay. Due to lockdown restrictions, she made use of her father's closet as a makeshift recording space. Donenfeld drew parallels between her character Solay's appearance and demeanor to that of General Leia Organa, pointing out that Solay's hairstyle, featuring two space buns, was inspired by Organa's iconic look and that Solay shared Organa's willingness to assist others.
Donenfeld further commented that she and other young viewers could easily identify with Solay's affection for animals. Donenfeld, along with her co-star Jamaal Avery Jr., who voiced Kai Brightstar, emphasized that the interactions between the three central characters, Brightstar, Solay, and Nubs, were intended to impart to children the significance of teamwork, friendship, and resolving conflicts. Avery Jr. noted that Solay's role in the series was to remind Brightstar that seeking assistance from others is perfectly acceptable.
During an interview with Star Wars Explained host Alex Damon, Michael Olson disclosed that Lys Solay's character traits were inspired by his own daughter.
