RJ-83, often shortened to RJ, served as the personal droid belonging to Nash Durango. During the High Republic Era, RJ also became a close companion to Jedi Initiates Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, and Nubs.
As an RJ unit, RJ-83 functioned as the copilot for Nash Durango. Together, they operated the shuttle known as the Crimson Firehawk as part of Durango Shuttle Service, a business owned and operated by Durango's parents. In the year 232 BBY, they were dispatched to Coruscant aboard one of the shuttles responsible for transporting Jedi younglings to the Jedi Temple located on their homeworld of Tenoo. They were responsible for the transport of the three younglings Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs. Upon arriving on Tenoo, they received a communication from Hap, a chef who ran Hap's Sap Tap in Kublop Springs. Hap urgently requested their assistance, explaining that his café was currently under raided by a gang of pirates commanded by Taborr Val Dorn. Upon their arrival in Kublop Springs, RJ-83 and Durango remained with their ship. Following a brief skirmish, the pirates attempted to flee with their stolen goods. The Jedi then contacted Durango, who subsequently arrived in the Firehawk. With the assistance of RJ-83, Durango skillfully utilized a crane hook to lift the cart containing Hap's stolen possessions. This maneuver served to distract the pirates, allowing the Jedi and several local residents to intervene, ultimately compelling the pirates to retreat without their loot. Subsequently, RJ-83 and Durango provided transportation for the Jedi to the temple.
The character of RJ-83 made their debut in the short film "Meet the Young Jedi," which is part of the Disney Junior animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. Jonathan Lipow provided the voice for RJ-83.
