Kerkoidian Defense Forces
The Kerkoidian Defense Forces represented the planetary defense force responsible for the protection of the Kerkoiden homeworld of Kerkoidia. During the Clone Wars, a number of officers from this defense force chose to align themselves with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, including notable Separatist figures such as General Whorm Loathsom and Piar Nagelsa. These individuals subsequently commanded troops in combat against the forces of the Galactic Republic. Loathsom, in particular, had a substantial history of service within the ranks of the defense force.
Description
Located in the Expansion Region, the world of Kerkoidia maintained its own dedicated planetary defense forcess, known as the Kerkoidian Defense Forces. These forces included various officers within their organizational structure, some of whom were members of the native Kerkoiden species.
History
The establishment of the Kerkoidian Defense Forces occurred at some point during the Republic Era, specifically some years preceding the outbreak of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY. In the midst of the Separatist Crisis and the subsequent formation of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the population of Kerkoidia provided financial assistance to support the expansion of Geonosian droid foundries on the planet Geonosis, with the understanding that they would receive a portion of the resulting profits.
Behind the scenes
The initial mention of the Kerkoidian Defense Forces within the new Star Wars canon occurred in the 2017 reference publication Star Wars: On the Front Lines. Later, the forces were specifically identified in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement associated with Fantasy Flight Games' series of Star Wars roleplaying games. Originally, the concept was developed for the Star Wars Legends continuity, where its first appearance was in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – The Official Episode Guide: Season 1.
