Korba was a planet of the terrestrial type, notable for its surface features: mountain spires. These spires housed caverns abundant with kyber crystals, essential for the Jedi Order's construction of their signature weapons, lightsabers. The planet's kyber deposits were celebrated throughout the galaxy until the Sith Order "poisoned" them, corrupting them with the Dark side of the Force and causing the crystals to turn red. Despite this, over time, the native sentient species of Korba, known as the Korbans, developed methods to mine the tainted kyber for the Jedi, who then utilized the Force to restore the crystals to their original, untainted state.
By 19 BBY, no Korban had ventured beyond their homeworld. They remained on Korba, extracting kyber from the mines located within the planet's spires, such as the one found in Spire 17. At one point, a young Force-sensitive Korban girl named Aau, along with her father, Abat, discovered her ability to purify Korba's kyber crystals through singing, leading Abat to forbid her from singing near the crystals. However, after the arrival of the Jedi Kratu on Korba, Aau and her father journeyed to a large Korban settlement, where they tended to Korba's purple beasts and mined kyber, respectively. Defying her father's instructions, the girl followed him to Spire 17 and purified kyber in a cavern using her singing. Her singing was interrupted by her father, causing the collapse of nearby spires. While attempting to escape, both fell from a bridge but were rescued by Kratu, who subsequently departed the world with Aau to cultivate her unique singing abilities.
