Kratu, a Jedi female of the humanoid species, journeyed to the planet Korba where she secured kyber crystals from Abat, a miner belonging to the Korban people. During her time there, Kratu discovered that Abat's daughter, Aau, possessed the unique ability to purify kyber crystals through her singing.
In the year 19 BBY, Kratu made her way to the world of Korba to connect with Abat, a Korban miner specializing in kyber crystals, which he supplied to her. As Kratu arrived, Aau, Abat's daughter, ascended a cliff using a rope, gazing at the landscape's towering formations while singing. She watched as the Jedi Kratu's ship approached their home, prompting her to hurry back. Abat and his daughter then shared a meal of soup before Kratu landed her starship near their dwelling.
Inside Abat's residence, he and Kratu engaged in a discussion regarding the red-hued kyber crystals. During their exchange, Aau eavesdropped through a window, beginning to sing and establishing a connection with the kyber. This caused the girl to fall from the window. Abat and Kratu went outside, and Abat began to scold his child, reminding her to keep her distance. Kratu, however, intervened, greeting Aau and commenting that the crystals were "calling" to her. Kratu then departed, mentioning she had errands to run in town. Abat cautioned Aau that using her voice near the kyber was perilous.
Later that same day, Aau inadvertently triggered a cave-in at one of the kyber mines where Abat was working, utilizing her vocal abilities. The pair attempted to escape across a wooden bridge, but the cave's collapse caused the nearby spires to crumble, and the resulting chasm severed one side of the bridge. Abat plummeted, and Aau desperately grasped at one of the bridge's supporting poles, but her grip failed, and she fell with her father, crying. Kratu materialized just as they were about to crash into the ground, employing the Force to halt their descent. Subsequently, she conjured a Force shield to safeguard them from the falling rocks above.
With her eyes closed, Aau began to sing, purifying the crystals within the spires and halting their collapse. She nestled her face into Abat's shoulder as he knelt in astonishment. Kratu, equally amazed, informed Abat that she could assist Aau in developing her voice if she were to accompany her, adding that they "could not choose where their calling took them, only whether or not they would answer."
The following day, Aau departed Korba with Kratu aboard her starship.
Kratu, typical of many Jedi, exhibited a composed and benevolent nature. She displayed a keen interest in the impure nature of the kyber found on Korba. Kratu was a humanoid with a distinct appearance, characterized by purple skin and black markings on her face. Her eyes were a striking shade of green.
Kratu was adorned with a large, broad-brimmed hat and a pair of earrings crafted from blue [stone](/article/stone]. Additionally, she wore a hooded overcoat resembling a poncho, along with golden rings around her neck. Kratu's weapon of choice was a lightsaber that emitted a blue blade.
Being a Jedi, Kratu possessed Force-sensitivity and the inherent ability to manipulate the Force. She demonstrated proficiency in telekinesis and the creation of force barriers.
Kratu made her debut in "Aau's Song," a short film produced by Triggerfish studio. This film was the ninth episode of Star Wars: Visions's second season, an anthology series that premiered on May 4, 2023. Cynthia Erivo provided the voice for the character.
