Koshaga

Koshaga, a planet, served as the homeworld of the Koshagan people. A significant number of Koshagans participated in the Koshagan People's Movement, an armed insurgency that fought against the oppressive ruling class governing Koshaga. However, around the year 3 ABY, the Galactic Empire intervened on Koshaga, effectively suppressing the People's Movement in a rapid military action, forcing the surviving members to retreat across the Koshagan Lowlands. One week following this military operation, a recruiter from the Rebel Alliance secretly traveled to Koshaga aboard a transport and departed a day later, having successfully recruited the Koshagan individual Emon Kref.

Description

Koshaga was a terrestrial planet that existed within a specific star system.

History

During the time of the Galactic Empire, Koshaga was under the control of a ruling class. This leadership's tyrannical practices were met with resistance in the form of an armed rebellion, known as the Koshagan People's Movement, which engaged in warfare against the ruling faction and its supporters. The Koshagan uprising continued for several years until the Empire decided to get involved around 3 ABY. The Imperial Military arrived with numerous stormtroopers supported by armored forces. In a quick military campaign, the Imperial forces invaded the Koshagan Lowlands, with their vehicles destroying everything in their path. The People's Movement quickly had their defenses broken, with numerous leaders being captured and imprisoned and the remaining fighters being forced to retreat.

The retreating soldiers of the Koshagan People's Movement were pursued through the Lowlands by a large amount of stormtroopers, including during the nighttime. The stormtroopers cut off the armed rebels everywhere they moved while the former's vehicles continued to destroy the landscape. The few remaining survivors were eventually led to safety by the Koshagan rebel fighter Emon Kref. One week after the Empire's devastating military action on Koshaga, a recruiter for the Rebel Alliance, a movement against the Empire that spanned the galaxy, secretly arrived on the planet on a transport, having heard about the Koshagan uprising. Kref joined the recruiter and departed his homeworld on the secret transport a day later.

Mere weeks after the Empire ended the Koshagan uprising, Kref was a rebel soldier during the defense of the Alliance's base on the ice planet Hoth against the Empire. As the battle raged, a burning smell reminded the soldier of the ashes of Koshaga, causing him to remember when Imperial forces were hunting him and the other survivors of the Koshagan People's Movement. As the Imperials on Hoth continued their relentless advance on rebel lines, Kref asked his comrade, the Alderaanian Andry Ked, why they were fighting the Empire if they had no chance of winning. Ked replied that the Empire's shadow would pass, but not before it was pushed down relentlessly into darkness, adding that what happened on Koshaga was happening everywhere in the galaxy.

Inhabitants

The Koshagan people, known for their pride and strong will, inhabited Koshaga. The Koshagan People's Movement had a large amount of infantry who were well-armed and well-supplied with resources. Among them was Emon Kref, a Koshagan native whose father was a general and a leading member of the People's Movement. Kref had been born into the war on Koshaga and spent a significant portion of his life on the planet as a soldier for the Koshagan People's Movement. When fighting with the Rebel Alliance on Hoth, Kref considered the rebels there to be far less-numbered and less-equipped than the People's Movement.

Behind the scenes

Koshaga was first introduced and appeared in flashbacks in "Beyond Hope," a short story penned by Michael Moreci for the 2020 anthology From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.
