A kybuck was an animal characterized by its spiraling horns and brown fur. These creatures were native to the planet of Kashyyyk. They were also found inhabiting the forests of Shili.
Back in 35 BBY, Pav-ti Tano, a Togruta, took her daughter, Ahsoka Tano, on a traditional hunt that occurred one year following the daughter's birth. During this hunting trip, Pav-ti tracked a small group of kybucks and successfully killed one of the animals.
The name of the Kybuck Clan, a Jedi Initiate Clan that included Obi-Wan Kenobi and Gehren Rand, was derived from this creature. Kybuck fur was a suitable material for making clothing. Wolentic Dudge, a resident of Kijimi City, wore a vest that was lined using kybuck fur.
The kybuck was added to the official Star Wars canon in the 2019 reference book titled Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary. This book was written by Pablo Hidalgo and served as a companion piece to the movie Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. The first appearance of kybucks in canon was in "Life and Death," which was the initial episode of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, an animated anthology series that was launched on Disney+ on October 26, 2022.
Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, kybucks were a species of ungulates originating from Kashyyyk. They were first seen in the first episode of the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series, which debuted on Cartoon Network on November 7, 2003.
