Liberation of Abridon

The Third Engagement on Abridon occurred in 4 ABY, a short time before the Battle of Endor. The Alliance to Restore the Republic gave assistance to the Abridon Nationalists as they attempted to force the Galactic Empire off of Abridon.

Details of the Conflict

The Nationalists, with backing from the Rebel Alliance, had rebelled against the Empire several months prior to the battle. Imperial general Brenn Tantor suppressed that revolt. However, although the Rebel presence had been eliminated, the Nationalists continued their resistance, finding refuge in the industrial hub of Sayan. Following months of ongoing combat, the Nationalists once more requested assistance from the Rebellion, offering their loyalty and military resources in return for expelling the Empire from the planet.

The Rebellion decided to liberate the planet not long before the Battle of Endor. General Tyr Taskeen, who previously commanded the initial Rebel army, came back alongside Tantor, who had switched his allegiance to the Alliance after disobeying an order from his superior to commit a civilian massacre.

Tantor's forces made planetfall on the southern outskirts of the capital. Tantor rapidly took action to secure his foothold by seizing the Imperial installation situated just east of his landing zone.

Subsequently, Tantor advanced northward into the city itself, capturing the Imperial base that he had formerly established at the base of Government Mound. With no remaining centralized Imperial positions in the vicinity, he reclaimed the Government Center. An Abridon individual within the Government Center informed Tantor that his family, along with numerous other civilians, were being detained in a camp located outside the city.

Tantor's forces promptly located the detention facility, from which they freed a number of captives. Among those liberated was Hamman Flatt, the former lieutenant governor of Abridon and a Nationalist, whom Tantor had incarcerated during his previous occupation. Flatt proposed an agreement to the Rebels: he would bring Abridon into the Rebel cause and provide a shipment of A-wings if Tantor and Taskeen would remove the Empire from the planet and relieve the Nationalists in Sayan, where the Empire had started to devastate the city using artillery bombardments.

The A-wings take off from the Abridon Shipyard to join the Rebel fleet over Sullust.

Tantor was deployed to the edge of Sayan. Utilizing the ongoing urban combat within the city as concealment, he carefully moved the TR-MB, a modest armored escort, and several Hover Transports filled with soldiers and pilots for the A-wings to the Abridon Shipyard, which was located on an island at the city's edge. After seizing the shipyards and quickly launching the A-wings into orbit, Tantor reinforced his position, which could only be accessed via two causeways. By summoning reinforcements from orbit, he crushed the Imperial presence in the city, completely eliminating all enemy forces. With Abridon entirely liberated from Imperial control, it formally joined the Rebellion.
