Tyr Taskeen

Tyr Taskeen, a male Human from Alderaan, distinguished himself as a general within the Alliance to Restore the Republic throughout the Galactic Civil War. Initially, he operated a successful starship sales enterprise. However, his life took a dramatic turn when the Galactic Empire seized his business and subjected his nonhuman employees to slavery. Incensed by these actions, Taskeen joined the burgeoning Rebellion on his homeworld of Alderaan and quickly ascended through the ranks, earning the title of general due to his exceptional abilities in establishing and managing clandestine bases situated in the Outer Rim Territories.

In 3 ABY, Taskeen held command of the Rebel forces stationed on Abridon. It was there that he successfully persuaded Brenn Tantor, the Imperial general who had previously defeated his troops, to switch allegiances to the Rebel Alliance. This pivotal moment occurred after Tantor received orders to perpetrate a massacre within a refugee camp. Following Tantor's defection, Taskeen assumed a supervisory role, overseeing operations such as the acquisition of an All Terrain Armored Transport and the subsequent liberation of Abridon. Furthermore, Taskeen participated in the Battle of Endor as one of the Rebel generals present, maintaining communication with Tantor. Taskeen continued his service into the era of the New Republic, spearheading the Liberation of Coruscant that marked the Empire's ultimate demise, with Tantor directing tactical maneuvers under his command.

Biography

From Starship Salesman to Rebel Commander

Tyr Taskeen, a male Human native of the planet Alderaan, had not envisioned a future in the military. After his formal education, he embarked on a career path as an independent starship vendor, trading advanced starships with various spaceports and private buyers, primarily operating within the Outer Rim Territories. This business approach enabled him to achieve rapid expansion, ultimately leading to the establishment of a sizable and highly lucrative enterprise.

His life underwent a cataclysmic shift when, prior to the year 0 BBY, the Galactic Empire nationalized his company. Compounding this injustice, numerous nonhuman employees were forced into slavery. Consumed by fury, Taskeen returned to Alderaan, confident that he could establish connections to facilitate his entry into the Rebellion.

Despite his lack of military training, Taskeen possessed a range of qualities that proved invaluable to the Rebellion. His personal wealth, entrepreneurial acumen, extensive network of contacts, and familiarity with the Outer Rim Territories positioned him perfectly to establish and oversee multiple Rebel bases within the Rim.

These attributes, coupled with his demonstrated success, soon attracted the attention of the Rebel leadership. He experienced a series of promotions, culminating in his attainment of the rank of general. While not necessarily a brilliant tactician, Taskeen excelled as an administrator, demonstrated competence as an officer, and displayed unwavering dedication to the cause.

Following the Alliance's triumph over the Empire's Death Star battle station during the Battle of Yavin, Taskeen attended a ceremony recognizing Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca with the Medal of Bravery for their contributions to the battle.

The Defection of Brenn Tantor

Brenn contacts Tyr Taskeen to defect to the Rebel Alliance

During 3 ABY, Taskeen led a Rebel force that captured Abridon in collaboration with the Abridon Nationalists. Although initially a significant victory for the Rebellion, the mission rapidly devolved into a disaster. Within days, the Imperials launched a counterattacked, overwhelming Rebel positions surrounding the capital city, reclaiming the capitol, and capturing several Rebel dignitaries sent to negotiate with the Abridon government, including the Jedi hero Luke Skywalker. Ultimately, the Imperial ground forces crushed the last Rebel stronghold, with Taskeen unable to prevent their reconquest. While monitoring Imperial transmissions, Taskeen overheard Grand General Brashin ordering the destruction of a refugee camp sheltering innocent civilians. General Brenn Tantor, the commander responsible for decimating Taskeen's forces, refused to comply. Brashin engaged in a heated exchange with his subordinate and relieved him of his command.

Taskeen recognized an opportunity and seized it. He discreetly contacted Tantor, providing the Imperial general with a secure communication channel should he consider defecting. Shortly thereafter, Tantor contacted him, revealing his intention to be at Kalaan within two days.

Taskeen swiftly traveled to Kalaan and established a temporary base, prepared to receive Tantor's defection, fully aware that it might be an Imperial ploy. Nevertheless, he deemed it irresponsible to disregard the chance to recruit such a highly skilled and well-placed Imperial officer. Tantor escaped Imperial custody on Kalaan, bringing with him a remarkable array of assets: a Tracked Mobile Base command vehicle, a squad of defecting stormtroopers, and, most significantly, Luke Skywalker, who had also been imprisoned on Kalaan.

Tantor was transported to a Rebel fleet in orbit, where Taskeen met him face-to-face for the first time. To the defector's astonishment, Taskeen's soldiers immediately took him into custody. Taskeen allowed Tantor to languish in the brig before finally meeting with him. Taskeen questioned Tantor's value, prompting the former Imperial to offer proof of his worth by capturing an All Terrain Armored Transport. Intrigued but cautious, Taskeen expressed willingness, but Tantor insisted on first rescuing Beri Tulon, an Imperial colonel and Tantor's mentor, who had attempted to defect on Abridon. Imprisoned on the planet, Tantor possessed knowledge of an AT-AT manufacturing facility. Still harboring suspicions about Tantor's loyalty, but unwilling to forgo the opportunity to place such a powerful machine in the hands of Alliance technicians, Taskeen approved Tantor's plan, but warned him that he would remain under Taskeen's watchful eye.

Taskeen and Tantor orchestrated an ambush targeting the convoy transporting Tulon to the Tarkin Detention Facility. Tantor performed admirably both during the ambush and in a subsequent raid on a nearby Imperial computer complex that yielded the access codes to the walker manufacturing facility on Trasse. Taskeen's doubts were not entirely dispelled, but he gradually developed confidence in Tantor.

Now overseeing yet another former Imperial, Taskeen was pleased when Tantor and Tulon successfully seize an AT-AT from Trasse without complications. However, he had little time to celebrate, as Grand General Brashin arrived in the system aboard the Star Destroyer Inquisitor. Tantor was compelled to quickly seize control of a planetary ion cannon and successfully disabled the Star Destroyer.

Rebel Victories

Following the successful completion of the mission, Taskeen began to trust Tantor more fully. He placed the General in command of a mission to Abridon, leveraging Tantor's familiarity with Imperial positions there. Taskeen observed approvingly from the Nebulon-B frigate Lucky Star as Tantor routed the Imperial garrison he had previously established and liberated a camp of prisoners, including Hamman Flatt, the former lieutenant governor of Abridon. Flatt informed Taskeen and Tantor that, in gratitude, the Abridon Nationalists would provide several A-wings from the shipyards of Sayan. Aware of the impending Battle of Endor, Taskeen was eager to augment the Alliance's starfighter forces. Tantor fought his way through the war-torn city, and a Hover Transport carrying pilots safely transported the A-wings to Sullust, where the Rebel fleet prepared to attack the Death Star II.

Taskeen and Tantor then rejoined the main Rebel force. Tyr Taskeen was among the four generals who planned, oversaw, and executed the ground mission to destroy the shield projector on Endor. General Crix Madine served as the primary planner, while Tantor, who had assisted in establishing the shield bunker as an Imperial, oversaw the operation from the Lambda-class shuttle Tydirium. General Han Solo led the commando squad responsible for destroying the bunker. Taskeen supervised Tantor's performance and acted as a liaison with high command during the fleet battle.

The resounding victory at Endor resulted in the deaths of Emperor Palpatine, Supreme Commander Darth Vader, Grand Admiral Nial Declann, and numerous other prominent Imperials, plunging the Galactic Empire into disarray. As various warlords seceded from the Empire, Admiral Gial Ackbar dispatched the First Fleet under Admiral Firmus Nantz on a campaign in the Western Reaches. Nantz drove the forces of the Imperial warlord Admiral Sander Delvardus from Glova, while Taskeen led a ground attack with the support of Sullustan irregular troops. Nantz's forces proceeded to Glom Tho, where Taskeen once again commanded a ground operation, overseeing the capture of several foundries. However, the Empire remained intact. Over two more years of conflict would be necessary before the Rebel Alliance, now the New Republic, launched the invasion of Coruscant, the Empire's capital.

Capture of Coruscant

Taskeen, in coordination with the New Republic high command, instructed General Tantor to land a force of limited size to evade detection by Coruscant's sophisticated sensor network near the north pole. This force disabled the sensor nodes in the area, paving the way for the New Republic to deploy a massive assault force undetected. Tantor then breached the defensive wall along the edge of the ice cap, seizing a series of critical Imperial facilities, including a hospital, repair bay, artillery platforms, and walker storage depots.

Republic forces advanced toward the final objective: the Imperial Palace itself. Confronting the formidable Imperial defense, led by his old adversary Grand General Brashin, Tantor relentlessly pushed through layers of Imperial armor, weapon emplacements, and air support until a final infantry assault secured the Imperial Palace. Throughout the battle, Taskeen maintained his role as Tantor's supervisor, defining the overarching strategic objectives.

It was during this time that Tantor discovered that his brother, Dellis, long presumed dead at the hands of the Empire, had been imprisoned in a dungeon beneath the Palace. Taskeen was present to greet the brothers as they emerged from the Palace. Taskeen warmly congratulated his friend and welcomed Dellis to freedom. Observing the crowd celebrating the New Republic's victory, Taskeen envisioned a promising future.

Personality and Traits

Tyr Taskeen, as a Rebel officer

Tyr Taskeen possessed red-brown hair, brown eyes, and fair skin. Taskeen's career did not begin as a passionate freedom fighter but as a businessman. However, he was not a callous credit-obsessed individual who joined the Rebellion solely to reclaim his company. Taskeen was driven by both principle and revenge, intertwined with the Empire's enslavement of his nonhuman employees.

Taskeen remained exceptionally loyal to the Rebellion, and later to the New Republic. He harbored deep suspicions of Tantor for several missions, providing the former Imperial with minimal resources to accomplish his objectives, but he was pragmatic enough to acknowledge Tantor's loyalty after the delivery of the AT-AT.

Despite his rank as a general, Taskeen's primary strengths lay in his business acumen: administration and organization. During battles, he allowed Tantor to handle tactical decisions while he supervised and ensured that overall objectives were met. These skills proved sufficient to impress the Rebel and New Republic high command, entrusting Taskeen with crucial roles in the battles of Endor and Coruscant.

Behind the Scenes

Tyr Taskeen was created for the 2000 LucasArts video game Star Wars: Force Commander, where Michael Bell provided his voice. The "Rogues Gallery" feature by Leland Chee in the June 2012 issue of Star Wars Insider 133 retconned Taskeen as one of the previously unidentified Rebels standing behind Princess Leia Organa during the final scene of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
