Locap, a unique type of plant, thrived on the planet Naboo by extracting plasma from the planet's deep water filled, porous rock formations. The Gungan species made a pivotal discovery of locap and subsequently developed a method to extract stabilized plasma from the plant's buds using specialized bongos, which they then harnessed as a valuable energy resource.
This unusual plant, known as locap, made its home in the depths of Naboo's waters. Its root system penetrated the porous rocks, drawing out plasma which was then stabilized naturally through the plant's internal processes. This resulting stabilized plasma accumulated within the buds located at the ends of the locap's stalks.
The buds were characterized by circular lobes equipped with sharp, spiny teeth that snapped shut upon sensing any form of pressure. These plants exhibited an exceptionally slow growth rate and could survive for many centuries. Furthermore, locap plants possessed enormous brown branches, so large that entire humanoid sized cities could be constructed upon them.

Long before 32 BBY, specifically thousands of years prior, the sentient Gungan species, indigenous to Naboo, were compelled to seek refuge underwater due to intense territorial conflicts, leading to their discovery of locap. They developed techniques to extract plasma from the plant's buds utilizing bongos fitted with siphons on the front, enabling them to utilize this naturally occurring energy source to power much of their technology, most notably their underwater cities. However, harvesting locap was a perilous task because of the bud's sharp teeth.
The city of Otoh Gunga, anchored to a cliff face deep within Lake Paonga, featured hydrostatic bubbles, including the expansive City Bigspace, positioned atop the locap branches.
Locap made its debut appearance in the 1999 prequel trilogy movie, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Its formal identification within current canon occurred in the 2016 reference work Star Wars: Complete Locations. The name "Locap" has its origins in the Star Wars Legends continuity, initially appearing in the 2000 reference book titled Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, penned by Kristin Lund.
