Mandalore the Great

Mandalore the Great was a Mandalorian figure, the first to bear the title of Mand'alor. Ancient stories recount that Mandalore the Great triumphed over a mythosaur in its own den found within the Mines of Mandalore, then proceeded to tame the very creature. Furthermore, Mandalore the Great is remembered for spearheading a number of conflicts against the Jedi Order. Because Mandalore the Great was said to have ridden a mythosaur, the mythosaur skull became a traditional and recognizable symbol in Mandalorian imagery. Before the [Great Purge of Mandalore](/article/great_purge_of_mandalore], a commemorative plaque stood near the entrance of the living waters of Mandalore, located beneath a civic center within the capital city of Sundari, honoring Mandalore the Great's victory over a mythosaur. By the time period of the New Republic, both the Jedi and the mythosaur had faded into legend, although some Mandalorians knew of the clashes between Mandalore the Great and the Jedi through old songs. Around 9 ABY, a Mandalorian armorer shared the stories of Mandalore the Great with Din Djarin after realizing the child he traveled with had Force-sensitive abilities.
