The Mines of Mandalore were situated beneath the Civic Center within the city of Sundari, which itself was located on the planet Mandalore. These mines served as a source of beskar ore for the Mandalorians and also housed the sacred Living Waters. The Mandalorian Creed as interpreted by the Children of the Watch dictated that a Mandalorian apostate who had removed their helmet could only find redemption by undertaking a pilgrimage to the Living Waters.
These mines had been in existence for millennia, predating both the New Republic and the reign of the first Mandalore. Ancient legends told of the mines once being the dwelling place of a mythosaur, which was subsequently tamed by Mandalore the Great. During the New Republic Era, the Armorer informed Din Djarin, after he confessed to removing his helmet, that his only path to atonement lay in traveling to the Mines of Mandalore and cleansing himself in the Living Waters, despite the widespread belief that they had been destroyed during the Great Purge of Mandalore. Din Djarin clung to the hope that the mines still existed after discovering a crystal originating from the planet's surface, which Jawas had bartered with a traveler. In contrast, Bo-Katan Kryze asserted that the mines held no mystical significance, serving merely as a source of beskar ore for the Mandalorians.
Djarin embarked on a mission to the Living Waters with the goal of redeeming himself and lifting his decree of exile. Ultimately, he succeeded in immersing himself in the Waters. However, he lost consciousness during the process and was rescued by Kryze, who, unbeknownst to Djarin, witnessed a living mythosaur within the Waters. Subsequently, they returned to the covert to demonstrate Djarin's redemption. Paz Vizsla expressed skepticism regarding their claims, arguing that the mines had collapsed during the Purge. Nevertheless, Djarin presented evidence recovered from the Living Waters, and the Armorer verified its authenticity.
