Meckgin

Meckgin was a celebration of industriousness for the Geonosians. This day took place during the rainy season on the planet of Geonosis. In the lead-up to the Eve of Meckgin Festival, three days of gladiatorial contests were held in the Petranaki Arena; these were followed by several more days of sporting events. A popular food during Meckgin was lightly grilled arch grub. The Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems saw Archduke Poggle the Lesser, a former prisoner of war freed in a deal with the Republic, return home between 21 BBY and 19 BBY, allowing the Geonosian leader to participate in Meckgin.

An artist mentioned this holiday within their journal entry about the Geonosians. This journal was later restored, expanded upon, and put on display at the Graf Archive no sooner than 34 ABY.

Behind the scenes

The first mention of Meckgin in current Star Wars canon occurred in Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, a 2016 novel penned by James Luceno. The Star Wars Legends continuity is where Meckgin originated, initially mentioned in the name of the Eve of Meckgin in "A Cast of Thousands," an article by Daniel Wallace that appeared in the fifty-ninth issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine, released on April 2, 2002. Later, it was described as its own holiday in "War Factories," another article by Wallace, featured in the sixty-sixth issue of Insider on March 4, 2003.
