Meetra Surik Crystal

The Meetra Surik Crystal, a naturally occurring crystal, developed a bond with the Jedi known as Meetra Surik. This special connection resonated deeply with [her](/article/gender/legends] and reflected her unique relationship with the Force. Consequently, the crystal mirrored Surik's essence and possessed the power to amplify her inherent abilities.

Following the aftermath of the Jedi Civil War, Surik, who had been banished from the Jedi Order for her involvement in the Mandalorian Wars, discovered this crystal formation within a Force-attuned crystal cave situated on the Outer Rim planet of Dantooine. This occurred while she was searching for Jedi Master Vrook Lamar. When used as a lightsaber focusing crystal, the weapon became uniquely attuned to Surik, ensuring that only she could wield it. It also enhanced the performance of the other components and supporting crystals within the lightsaber.

Properties

Within the Crystal Cave on the Outer Rim world of Dantooine, the Meetra Surik Crystal was a component of a natural crystal formation. It had the ability to absorb excess energy from beings who were sensitive to the Force. After the Jedi Meetra Surik came across it, the crystal established a link with her, drawing its essence and strength from her unique connection to the Force. As a result, the crystal could enhance Surik's innate powers and physical capabilities. The crystal formation emitted a [green](/article/color-legends] glow on the cave floor.

Once Surik removed the crystal from the cave, it possessed a light-to-white hue. As Surik's Force abilities grew, the crystal's power intensified, causing its glow to shift from translucent to an almost blinding, radiant light. When used as a lightsaber focusing crystal, it amplified the effectiveness of the other components and secondary crystals used in the lightsaber's construction, while also guaranteeing that only Surik could wield the weapon.

History

The crystal's light side appearance

In the year 3951 BBY, near the conclusion of the Dark Wars, Meetra Surik—expelled from the Jedi Order for disobeying the Council's directives during the Mandalorian Wars—and her companions journeyed to Dantooine in search of Jedi Master Vrook Lamar. While seeking information in Khoonda, the center of the Dantooine government, she learned from Zherron, the leader of the Khoonda Militia, about a problem involving attacks by the insectoid kinrath on local settlers. Surik volunteered to eliminate the kinrath hive, which Zherron believed was located in a cave within the nearby Khoonda plains.

Surik and two of her allies ventured into the crystal cave, battling their way through the kinrath hive's tunnels to the final cavern, where the nest was located. After Surik defeated the kinrath matriarch and her offspring, Kreia, one of her companions and an informal Jedi Master, revealed that the cavern was a Force-sensitive location where crystals absorbed and reflected Force energy. While Surik searched for Force-infused crystals to eventually use in a lightsaber, she discovered the glowing crystal formation containing the crystal that bonded with her, a rare occurrence, according to Kreia. Throughout their journey, as Surik's connection to the Force deepened, Kreia aided Surik in refining the crystal's properties to mirror Surik's evolving relationship with the Force.

Behind the scenes

The crystal's dark side appearance

The Meetra Surik crystal was conceived for Obsidian Entertainment's 2004 computer game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. In the game, the player chooses the Jedi Exile's name, and the crystal adopts that name accordingly. The 2011 novel The Old Republic: Revan confirmed the Jedi Exile's name as Meetra Surik.

During gameplay, the player character can choose to follow either the light side or dark side path during missions, which can alter the character's Force alignment. The characteristics of the Meetra Surik crystal will reflect these alignment shifts. Depending on the player character's alignment, the crystal's color can range from light-to-white, gray, or dark-to-black, and its brightness can vary between blinding, intense, brilliant, dim, or opaque. Furthermore, there will be changes in the bonuses applied to the player's charisma, dexterity, and strength, as well as the amount of damage inflicted on opponents. The game features a total of forty-seven crystal variations, differing in color, abilities, and glow, but only one variation can be active at any given time.
