Michael Kenneth Williams, alternatively known as Michael K. Williams, was a multifaceted American talent who excelled as an actor, dancer, and reporter. He was born on November 22, 1966, and passed away on September 6, 2021. In the 2018 movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, Williams was initially chosen to play Dryden Vos and even completed scenes alongside the rest of the cast. However, due to scheduling problems, he couldn't return to the role of Vos during the reshoots overseen by Ron Howard, who took over after the original directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, left the production. Subsequently, Paul Bettany was selected to replace Williams in the role of Vos.
Michael Kenneth Williams, an American individual, demonstrated his talents as an actor, dancer, and reporter. He was born in Flatbush, New York on November 22, 1966, and began his acting journey at the age of 22. Throughout his distinguished career, Williams received five nominations for the prestigious Primetime Emmy.
On March 6, 2017, StarWars.com made the announcement that Williams had been cast in an as-yet-unspecified role in the then-unnamed film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. This role was later revealed to be the crime lord Dryden Vos. During the initial phase of filming, which took place from February 20, 2017, to June 20, 2017, under the direction of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Williams shot numerous scenes for the movie.
Williams utilized motion capture technology to bring his portrayal of Vos to life. The character, as envisioned and portrayed by Williams, was intended to be a hybrid of "mountain lion" and "human." However, after Lord and Miller's departure from Solo in June 2017, Williams was unable to continue in his role due to conflicting commitments in his schedule.

The Solo production was scheduled to resume in July 2017, with Ron Howard stepping in as the new director. This timeframe overlapped with the filming schedule for the television series Hap and Leonard, in which Williams had a contracted role. To keep Williams as Vos, Lucasfilm would have needed to postpone filming until November 2017, after Williams completed his work on the series, which would have meant delaying the planned release date of Solo.
Paul Bettany took over the part of Dryden Vos from Williams. Despite the change in actors, many aspects of Williams' original interpretation of the character, such as the unspoken rivalry between Vos and smuggler Han Solo for the attention of Vos' lieutenant, Qi'ra, remained in the final cut of the film. Following the release of Solo in 2018, Williams expressed his congratulations to his former colleagues for their success and shared his positive experiences working on the project. He also voiced his desire to potentially participate in another Star Wars project in the future. Williams passed away in Brooklyn, New York, on September 6, 2021, at the age of 54.
