In the year 4 BBY, operatives belonging to the Phoenix Cell embarked on an operation with the goal of saving Janard. Janard was a long-time acquaintance of the rebel Mandalorian Sabine Wren. At the time, he was being kept as a prisoner by the forces of the Galactic Empire. After intercepting a distress call originating from a freighter that had crashed into the oceans of Quila, an aquatic planet, they located Janard. During this rescue attempt, Captain Hera Syndulla served as the pilot of the Ghost, positioning the ship close to the downed freighter, while Wren and Tano boarded the vessel.
Wren and Tano conducted a search of the damaged vessel and ultimately located Janard, who was being threatened at blaster-point by several stormtroopers. The two rebels swiftly neutralized these stormtroopers. Escorting Janard, they navigated through the ship towards the bridge, hoping to establish contact with Syndulla for extraction. However, they encountered an Imperial officer along with additional stormtroopers. The rebels engaged in combat, eliminating a portion of the Imperial soldiers. Tragically, a stormtrooper shot Janard in the back, inflicting a fatal wound that resulted in his death. This loss served as a stark reminder to Wren of the high price of their struggle against the Empire.
