Mourning Shrines

The Mourning Shrines, situated underwater on the planet of Mon Cala, served as a memorial. This memorial featured several towering blue sculptures honoring prominent Mon Calamari figures, notably Admiral Gial Ackbar. Coral formations and eels populated the area surrounding the memorial.

During a Resistance mission to Mon Cala in 34 ABY, General Leia Organa paid a visit to the Mourning Shrines with Aftab Ackbar, the son of the late Admiral Ackbar, to pay her respects. While there, Aftab placed a shell within the mouth of one of the statues, in the belief that his father's soul resided there. Aftab expressed his gratitude to Organa for her visit to the shrines, even though he knew it wasn't the primary reason for her being there. Subsequently, the two departed in a submarine.
