Naboo Royal Navy base

The headquarters of the Naboo Royal Navy was situated beside a river to the southwest of the city of Spinnaker. This facility housed structures such as a fortress, a troop center, several factories, shield generators, turrets, and a shipyard. During the invasion of Spinnaker in 32 BBY, the forces of the Navy engaged the Trade Federation Droid Army, which had taken control of a village in proximity to the base. The droids overwhelmed the initial defense and proceeded to target the base using Droid Starfighters and energy pummels, ultimately leading to the complete destruction of the entire installation.

Description

Serving the Royal House of Naboo on the planet of Naboo, the Naboo Royal Navy functioned as a component of the Royal Naboo Security Forces. The location of the Navy's base was southwest of the city known as Spinnaker and to the west of a village, with both locations populated by the Human Naboo. A thick perimeter of trees surrounded the base on all sides, and a river flowed from the north along the eastern edge. Access to the base by foot was limited to a shallow section of the river, which connected to a paved path that branched towards both Spinnaker and the village.

External facilities were constructed outside of the base, such as an airbase (top right).

Within the base, the terrain was surfaced with bricks. A fortress stood at the center, equipped with defensive autoturrets and anti-air missiles. Encircling the fortress, in a clockwise direction, were two troop centers, a power core, a Research Center, a mech factory, a Heavy Weapons Factory, a shield generator, another power core, a command center, and a War Center.

In the western corner of the base, five prefab shelters were situated. The northern part of the base had a turret and a power core, with two turrets guarding its entrance. A shipyard on the river produced boats for the Navy. PKN-49 worker droids maintained the base. During the invasion of Spinnaker, the droids constructed additional structures, including another shield generator near the entrance, along with an airbase and an animal nursery on the opposite side of the river.

History

The base was destroyed by the Trade Federation.

In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation invaded Naboo, targeting Spinnaker for its nova crystals. Around the time that forces of the Trade Federation Droid Army reached the vicinity of the city, the PKN-49 worker droids built the additional shield generator and the airbase. Under the command of the B1-series battle droid OOM-9, the Droid Army seized the Naboo village to use as a staging area. In response, the Naboo Royal Navy and Spinnaker dispatched ground forces to reclaim the village, but the battle droids defeated them and began to strengthen their position. The Navy persisted in sending troops, including royal troopers, boats, and NB-1 Royal Bombers from the airbase, to attack the village without success.

OOM-9 extended his control by capturing the land between the Navy's base and the village, deploying six Droid Starfighters to protect a team of three worker droids that constructed two turrets around the nova crystals in that area. Subsequently, OOM-9 ordered a group of ten fighters to destroy the naval vessels on the river before attacking infantry troopers and turrets at the entrance of the base. The droids then launched energy pummels to destroy the base's fortress, losing at least one to the fortress's defenses. After the fortress fell, OOM-9 sent in his fighters and artillery to completely destroy the base, ultimately securing victory in capturing Spinnaker.

Behind the scenes

The Naboo Royal Navy base was initially mentioned in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent, which was published on November 7, 2001, and later featured in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, released on November 11 of the same year. The base is present in the third level of the Trade Federation campaign, "Spinnaker's Spoils," and while its destruction is not mandatory for the player, the strategy guide recommends it.

The strategy guide describes the base as having anti-aircraft turrets, multiple fortresses, and a spaceport; however, the game only includes one fortress and none of the other mentioned building types. If given sufficient time, the Naboo Royal Navy's CPU can generate units from the base's initial military structures to attack the player, including infantry and pummels, and it will also create bombers from the airbase, which is always built after the player begins the level. The worker droids may also construct additional buildings beyond the base's starting boundaries. In the easy difficulty mode, the base begins with two shield generators. In the moderate and hard difficulty settings, the base's worker droids construct the additional generator as soon as the level begins. This article adheres to the events as they unfold in the hard difficulty mode.
