Unidentified Naboo village (OOM-9)

A settlement, aligned with the Royal House of Naboo, existed on the planet of Naboo, not far from the city of Spinnaker. This settlement was naturally bounded by a river that flowed along its western and southern edges. Within its confines were resources such as trees, nova crystals, and ore deposits. The village's infrastructure included a command center, a water-based shipyard, resource processing facilities, power cores, a troop center, and multiple turrets.

During the Invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation in 32 BBY, the village was targeted and assaulted by the company, with the intention of using it as a staging area for the invasion of Spinnaker. The villagers surrendered, allowing the B1-Series battle droid commander OOM-9 to utilize the village as he saw fit. The Trade Federation Droid Army then reinforced the village's defenses by constructing additional turrets and successfully repelled attacks from Spinnaker and the Naboo Royal Navy. Subsequently, the droids expanded their army by building more military structures, ultimately succeeding in suppressing Spinnaker's resistance.

Description

Spinnaker, a city to the north of the village

Situated to the south of the city of Spinnaker on Naboo, was a village inhabited by the Human Naboo people. This village was also positioned to the east of a base belonging to the Naboo Royal Navy. A river served as a boundary, extending from the village's western edge to its southern side. The village featured three primary entrances, with the northeastern and northwestern access points framed by archways in the village walls. These archways each had a pair of light turrets positioned inside the village for defense. The southern region on the eastern side opened into a grassy area abundant with trees and populated by native fauna, including eopies, fambaas, and kaadu. The southern entrance was secured by a low wall with a gate accessible through a shallow section of the river.

The village grounds were surfaced with brick paving. A command center occupied the heart of the village, surrounded by (in clockwise order) a food processing center, two complexes each containing six prefab shelters, a water-based shipyard on the southwestern riverbank, a light turret, a power core, and a troop center. The shipyard was responsible for the construction of utility trawlers, which, alongside AquaHarvesters, were used for catching fish from the river. Slightly north of the troop center were deposits of nova crystals and a nova processing center. The northern part of the village housed a carbon processing center for storing carbon extracted from trees, another power core, and an ore processing center along with ore deposits. PKN-49 worker droids were used within the village to harvest the available natural resources.

After the village was seized and repurposed as a base by the Trade Federation Droid Army during their invasion of Spinnaker, the B1-Series battle droid OOM-9 immediately reinforced the village's defenses. He tasked the PKN-49 worker droids with constructing two medium turrets and two anti-aircraft turrets along the northern and western walls. Later, they augmented the village's military capabilities with at least one airbase, an additional troop center, and a mech factory.

History

Captured village

OOM-9's droidekas roll in to take the village.

This village demonstrated loyalty to the Royal House of Naboo and its monarch, Queen Padmé Amidala. In 32 BBY, during the Invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation, OOM-9 identified the village as a strategic location for establishing a base to launch an invasion of Spinnaker. The Droid Army approached the village from the south, deploying two Multi-Troop Transports, three Armored Assault Tanks, three manned Single Trooper Aerial Platforms, six heavy droidekas, six baron battle droids, ten Heavy Battle Droids, and ten droid grenadiers. They were met with resistance from eight royal troopers who emerged from the gate to engage the enemy. However, OOM-9 deployed the droidekas, which rolled into the village. Intimidated, the eight worker droids ceased their work. A royal trooper then announced the village's surrender, granting the Trade Federation control and placing all surviving troopers and worker droids under OOM-9's command. OOM-9 positioned the droidekas and infantry troops to guard the northern gates, while mechs defended the open southeastern area.

OOM-9 promptly reassigned the worker droids to collect carbon and ore, enabling the army to construct more turrets and battle droids. The droids constructed two medium turrets and two anti-air turrets and used the utility trawlers to gather fish. Spinnaker dispatched a force to reclaim the village, including three heavy V-19 landspeeders, four Heavy Champion repulsorcrafts, and two Steadfast tanks. The Naboo Royal Navy also deployed four Royal crusaders, three energy pummels, three Naboo energy catapults, and three Tuskcat Troopers. Both groups attempted to breach the western entrance, but the droids successfully repelled the attackers and proceeded to expand their defenses by adding an airbase, another troop center, and a mech factory to the village. By mining the available nova crystals, the droids were able to build fighters, Armored Assault Tanks, energy pummels, and missile battle droids, which they deployed throughout the village for aerial defense.

Eliminating resistance

The Trade Federation Droid Army defends the village from the forces of Spinnaker.

Spinnaker's subsequent assault force consisted of eight royal troopers, four heavy Tuskcat Troopers, six heavy V-19 landspeeders, two Champions, and one Steadfast, while the navy continued to send boats, all of which the Trade Federation successfully defeated. OOM-9 deployed a team of worker droids to construct a turret and a carbon processing center on the road connecting the village and Spinnaker, protected by five Droid Starfighters and some infantry troops. Most of Spinnaker's remaining forces detected the incursion outside the city walls and were killed attempting to reclaim it. OOM-9 then repeated this strategy to secure a nova deposit near the Royal Navy's base, subsequently defeating the Navy using fighters and pummels.

Ultimately, the Trade Federation Droid Army succeeded in capturing Spinnaker. Following the capture, Neimoidian traders were assembled to collect nova crystals from both the city's spaceports and the nearby Trade Federation base commanded by the droid YIN-762. The droids also launched an attack on a trading town north of Spinnaker by constructing an Ocean Troop Transport at the village's shipyard for transport to the town. OOM-9 achieved Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray's objective of acquiring 10,000 nova crystals from Naboo before proceeding to capture the capital city of Theed. Later, the Naboo Resistance occupied the area where the village once stood, although their territory was overrun in battle with the Trade Federation.

Behind the scenes

The Naboo village was initially referenced in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent, which was released on November 7, 2001. It was subsequently featured in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, which debuted on November 11, 2001. The village is a key location in the third level of the Trade Federation campaign, "Spinnaker's Spoils," where players control the Droid Army and occupy the village to achieve the goal of collecting 10,000 nova crystals. The level begins with the village designated as an opposing civilization called "Naboo Village." However, as the player's units approach the village's command center, the remaining buildings, workers, vessels, and soldiers transition to the player's control. Players can then expand the village by constructing buildings of their choice.

The Prima Games guide mentions the presence of a sentry post at the village's southern entrance, advising players to destroy it. However, this sentry post is absent in Galactic Battlegrounds. The guide also cautions players against causing excessive damage to the village at the start, as it would be detrimental to destroy units and buildings that will eventually join their side. It also emphasizes the importance of quickly upgrading defenses to secure victory.

In the hard difficulty version of the level, the initial wave of attackers from Spinnaker and the Naboo Royal Navy are stationed outside the village's western entrance and initiate their attack as soon as the player gains control of the settlement. In the easy mode, the village is equipped with two anti-air turrets, one on the western side and the other on the eastern side, which the player gains control of upon the village's surrender. This article assumes the hard difficulty mode is canonical within the Star Wars Legends continuity.
