Naja was a soldier in the Republic Army. During the Great Galactic War that pitted the Galactic Republic against the Sith Empire, he fought for the Republic. He later joined a black ops program managed by the Republic Special Forces Division of the Army. This led to him becoming a member of the Surgeons, an assassination squad. Ultimately, the squad's actions of targeting the families of enemy personnel resulted in their conviction for war crimes and imprisonment on the planet called Berrun.

During the Great Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, Naja functioned as a soldier within the Republic Army. He was part of a squad under the command of Sergeant Fideltin Rusk, a Chagrian. Their initial mission involved liberating Republic prisoners of war from an Imperial outpost. However, flawed intelligence led them to encounter a stronger enemy presence than anticipated. Despite this disadvantage, the squad successfully rescued all the prisoners, escaping with significant injuries but suffering no fatalities. In subsequent years, Naja, along with other squad members, was selected for the black ops program within the Republic Special Forces Division. General Elin Garza assigned the squad, which included fellow veterans Karsim and Eckerd, to assassinate Imperial leaders. The squad, later known as the "Surgeons," escalated their actions by targeting the families of their intended victims. This behavior was exposed, leading to Naja and his comrades being arrested for war crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment at a detention center on the planet Berrun.
Naja was initially a dedicated soldier, but his time in the Special Forces black ops program transformed him into a killer who disregarded the ethical principles of warfare. Sergeant Rusk was deeply troubled when he discovered that his former squad members had crossed the line by targeting women and children. He expressed disappointment that Naja and the others, whom he had once considered the finest soldiers under his command, had undergone such a drastic change.
The 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic included a mention of Naja. Early in the game's development, there were plans for Naja to appear either directly or through dialogue, as evidenced by the soldier's presence in The Old Republic's NPC files.
