Nak-il Tano

Nak-il Tano, a Togruta of the male persuasion, was the life partner of Pav-ti Tano and the father to Ahsoka Tano.

Biography

Nak-il with his partner Pav-ti and their infant daughter, Ahsoka.

Living on the planet known as Shili, Nak-il Tano was a Togruta of the male variety. In the evening of 36 BBY, his partner, Pav-ti Tano, experienced birth, resulting in their daughter, Ahsoka Tano. Overjoyed, Nak-il sprinted through the streets, announcing the news to the other Togrutas in their village, urging them to witness the newborn. Despite the late hour, many villagers arose to see the new baby.

Approximately one year later, Nak-il was occupied with work on their residence as Pav-ti readied herself to take Ahsoka on the traditional hunt within the neighboring forest. Noticing Pav-ti, Nak-il questioned her conviction in Ahsoka's readiness for such a venture. Pav-ti reminded him of the traditional nature of the custom, but Nak-il countered that those customs belonged to a bygone era. Upon Pav-ti's insistence, Nak-il relented and offered his well wishes.

Continuing his work on the house, Nak-il was startled by the sound of multiple blaster shots. Growing anxious, he seized his rifle and, along with several other armed Togrutas, followed the direction of the sounds. Upon reaching the location, he observed Pav-ti engaged in combat with a raxshir and discharged several rounds at the creature. As it retreated, the raxshir seized Ahsoka in its jaws and fled into the woods. Pav-ti cried out and attempted to pursue, but Nak-il restrained her, offering comfort as several other Togrutas gave chase.

Nak-il and Pav-ti discover that Ahsoka is a Jedi.

Upon returning to the village, Nak-il pledged to continue the search for Ahsoka, once again joined by numerous other villagers. However, at that moment, the raxshir approached the village, with Ahsoka seated upon its back. Nak-il observed as the animal bowed, allowing Pav-ti to retrieve Ahsoka. The raxshir then stood and retreated into the forest. The village elder, Gantika, then declared Ahsoka to be a Jedi.

Personality and traits

Nak-il Tano was a Togruta of the male sex, characterized by red skin, white and blue lekku, and brown eyes. His face was adorned with white markings. He did not hold the old traditions and practices as dearly as his partner, Pav-ti, yet he respected her desire to maintain them. He was a loving father, affectionately calling his daughter Soka as a term of endearment.

Nak-il possessed fluency in both Togruti and Galactic Basic Standard. He was skilled with a rifle. Additionally, he was a capable carpenter, at one point working on the roof of the house with a hammer and a droid assistant.

Behind the scenes

Nak-il Tano makes an appearance in the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi episode "Life and Death," with the voice acting provided by Sunil Malhotra. The idea of referencing Ahsoka Tano's father was initially conceived by Dave Filoni during the fourth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The original script for "Escape from Kadavo" featured Gupat Roshti informing Ahsoka that he knew or had known her parents, implying that her instinct to rescue others stemmed from them. However, this idea was abandoned because the writers preferred not to elaborate on Ahsoka's backstory, and Filoni felt that Roshti's statement would come across as "mean."
