Nargi-class pursuit frigate

The Nargi-class pursuit frigate, a type of frigate, served the Galactic Alliance in roles concerning law enforcement and security. Featuring a streamlined hull with a distinctive double-nosed design, it achieved exceptional speed through the use of Slayn & Korpil ion drives. Notably, in the year 43.5 ABY, a pair of these pursuit frigates attempted to seize Captain Han Solo. This occurred while he created a distraction for Galactic Alliance forces orbiting Coruscant, enabling his wife, Leia Organa Solo, to secretly transport four psychotic Jedi Knights offworld.

Characteristics

The Galactic Federation of Free Alliances utilized the Nargi-class pursuit frigate, a sleek and elongated starship. Its design incorporated a double-nosed structure and a streamlined hull, often displaying a blue hue. Equipped with large ion drives produced by Slayn & Korpil, the Nargi-class frigate gained a reputation for its outstanding speed capabilities.

Role

Around 43 ABY, the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances deployed the Nargi-class frigate. Frequently referred to as "Galactic Alliance pursuit frigates," these vessels were commonly stationed in orbit above Coruscant, the galactic capital. Their duties included pursuing ships violating Coruscant's air traffic regulations, as well as upholding general security and law enforcement. Additionally, Nargi-class frigates possessed the authority to designate vessels as suspicious and to forcibly take them into custody.

History

The Nargi-class pursuit frigate entered service with the Galactic Alliance sometime following the conclusion of the Second Galactic Civil War. In the year 43.5 ABY, a number of Jedi Knights began exhibiting symptoms of a mysterious psychosis. As a result, the Galactic Alliance decided to encase all affected Jedi in [carbonite](/article/carbonite-legends]. Objecting to this course of action, the New Jedi Order concealed as many of the psychotic Jedi as possible within the New Jedi Temple on Coruscant. To prevent their discovery by Galactic Alliance Security, a plan was devised to transport these Jedi offworld.

Captain Han Solo was tasked with creating a distraction for Galactic Alliance forces positioned in orbit above Coruscant. Piloting the Millennium Falcon, he deliberately violated every established procedure for departing the planet. This drew the attention of two Nargi-class frigates, identified as the Fast Death and the Quick End. Solo then simulated a proton torpedo explosion near the stern of the Millennium Falcon, sending it spiraling towards the Quick End while he declared an out-of-control emergency. The Quick End took evasive action, and eventually, convinced that Solo was not attempting a ruse, the Nargi-class frigates ceased their pursuit. With the pursuit frigates and other orbital forces diverted, Solo's wife, Leia Organa Solo, successfully smuggled the psychotic Jedi offworld.

Behind the scenes

The Nargi-class pursuit frigate made its debut appearance in Fate of the Jedi: Abyss, a novel written by Troy Denning in 2009. It served as the third book in the Fate of the Jedi series.
