title: Star Wars 7

Star Wars issue number 7 represents the seventh installment in the Legends comic book series titled Star Wars. Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin collaborated on the writing, while Chaykin and Frank Springer handled the artwork. Marvel Comics initially released it on October 11, 1977. This particular issue showcases the tale "New Planets, New Perils!," marking the first narrative in the series to take place following the events depicted in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

Publisher's Synopsis

As Han and Chewie set off to settle their debt with Jabba, they find themselves under attack by pirates!

Detailed Plot

Following their farewells to their Rebel allies, Han Solo and Chewbacca embark on a journey back to Tatooine with the intention of repaying their obligation to Jabba the Hutt. However, their journey is interrupted when they are ambushed by the space pirate Crimson Jack and his crew of ruffians. The pirates seize the money that the Rebel Alliance had awarded to Han and Chewbacca for their role in rescuing Princess Leia Organa, but they allow the pair to live.

Unable to pay Jabba, they are forced to keep a low profile and seek sanctuary on the planet known as Aduba-3. There, they are employed by Pera, a priest belonging to the Sacred Way, to conduct the burial of a recently deceased borg. Despite facing opposition from local residents who disapprove of burying a borg in their traditional burial ground, they eventually locate the designated site. After completing this task, the two smugglers find themselves relaxing in a local cantina, where they are presented with a far more dangerous proposition.

Production Notes

The issue was originally scheduled to ship on September 13, 1977, with a release date of October 11, 1977, and a cover date of January 1978.

Canon Implications

Star Wars #7 presents the story "New Planets, New Perils!," which became an early part of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. It marks the introduction of Crimson Jack and Jolli, who would become recurring characters throughout the series.

In The Rebel Thief, Han claims to have returned his reward money to the Rebels. This statement contradicts the events of this comic issue, where Crimson Jack steals the money.
