"Ocean Rescue" is a comic strip that appeared in the twelfth edition of the Star Wars Rebels Magazine series, which was published by Egmont UK Ltd. Martin Fisher was the writer, Bob Molesworth was the illustrator, and Gunther Nickel served as the editor. This comic was released on December 2, 2015.
Set in 4 BBY, the story begins with Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and Ahsoka Tano aboard the Ghost, as they follow an Imperial distress signal to the planet of Quila. They learn that the signal originates from an Imperial freighter that seems to have sustained damage from an asteroid collision. The freighter has crashed into the planet's ocean and is quickly sinking. Wren and Tano dive into the submerged wreckage to find Wren's contact, Janard, who was being held as a prisoner on the freighter.
As Wren and Tano navigate through the flooded sections of the freighter, they find the area deserted, including the prison cell where Janard was supposed to be. Wren becomes anxious due to water after half of her oxygen tube is disconnected and she struggles to breathe, also expressing that water is bad for art. They eventually locate Janard and engage in combat with the stormtroopers who had been guarding him. However, the group is then confronted by an Imperial officer and additional soldiers, who announce the arrival of an Imperial evac ship.
Syndulla then arrives in the Ghost and engages the evac ship in battle, while the others prepare to escape the sinking freighter. Just as it appears the Imperials have been defeated and the rebels are about to board the Ghost, a wounded stormtrooper shoots Janard in the back. As he dies in Wren's arms, he apologizes for his past actions, which included turning in a cadet, and he urges the rebels to continue their fight for the freedom of the galaxy.
