The Imperial Academy of Mandalore, also referred to as the Mandalorian Imperial Academy and previously known as the Royal Academy of Government, was an Imperial Academy situated in the city of Sundari, which serves as the capital of Mandalore.
The Royal Academy of Government, located within Sundari, the capital city of Mandalore, was initially established to cultivate the most promising Mandalorian youths, preparing them to guide the planet's future through leadership roles. However, its transformation into the Imperial Academy of Mandalore shifted its focus to training cadets in combat techniques, weapons technology (including repair), and explosives, equipping them for service within the Imperial Military. The academy also incorporated espionage training, which included a unit dedicated to teaching various languages, such as Aqualish and Huttese. Both Aurebesh, the written form of Galactic Basic Standard, and Mandalorian, the written form of Mando'a, the Mandalorian people's spoken language, were utilized within the academy's curriculum.
During the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the dissenting Confederacy of Independent Systems, Korkie Kryze, nephew to New Mandalorian leader Duchess Satine Kryze, attended the Royal Academy of Government alongside his friends Amis, Lagos, and Soniee. At Duchess Satine's request, the Jedi High Council dispatched Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano to Mandalore, ostensibly to instruct cadets at the academy, but with the hidden agenda of aiding Satine in uncovering corruption within the Mandalorian government. Kryze and his companions, with Tano's help, worked to expose the involvement of Prime Minister Almec in the black market.
Following the Clone War's conclusion, the Galactic Empire took control of Mandalore and repurposed the Royal Academy into the Imperial Academy of Mandalore. A prominent student, the Mandalorian Sabine Wren, studied the tactics employed by Twi'lek freedom fighter Cham Syndulla and Mandalorian Protector leader Fenn Rau during the Clone Wars. She discovered that the Empire was developing a new cruiser equipped with gravity well projectors capable of extracting a ship from hyperspace. She also distinguished herself as the fastest cadet in completing the language unit within espionage training. During her time at the academy, Wren encountered Imperial officials whose arrogance she found distasteful, contrasting them negatively with Commandant Cumberlayne Aresko of the Lothal Academy's. However, her initial trust in the Empire and unquestioning obedience led to a harrowing experience, prompting Wren to leave the academy and become a bounty hunter, eventually aligning herself with a group of rebels operating on Lothal.
