Throughout the Galactic Civil War, the Pakuuni sector was the site of numerous significant events. The Galactic Empire frequently patrolled this area as they tried to quell the activities of the Rebel Alliance.
During 1 BBY, a substantial Imperial task force engaged a Rebel fleet over the world of Turkana within the Turkana system. It was during this conflict that the Rebels initially used the T-65 X-wing starfighter against the Empire. Despite suffering significant casualties, the X-wing's effectiveness in defeating Imperial forces during this battle led the Alliance to begin large-scale production of the X-wing, establishing it as their primary multi-role starfighter.
In 3 ABY, Imperial forces implemented a screening process for all civilian vessels traversing the sector, hoping to locate Rebel survivors who had escaped the Battle of Hoth. During this time, the Alliance, along with their allies, the Pakuuni Pirates, tried to eliminate the Imperial presence by disabling their key operational base. This attempt was unsuccessful, and the Empire regained control of the disputed sector.
