"Palpatine" is a brief narrative included within the From a Certain Point of View collection. Authored by Ian Doescher, the story presents the perspective of Emperor Palpatine, and is composed using rhyming iambic pentameter, much like Doescher's William Shakespeare's Star Wars series of books.
After Darth Vader informs him of Obi-Wan Kenobi's death, Emperor Palpatine revels in Kenobi's demise at the hands of his apprentice and instrument. The Emperor contemplates Kenobi's choice to conceal himself on Tatooine, pondering if he was crafting his own tool. Despite the expected joy from Kenobi's death, the Emperor is troubled by several unanswered questions. He remembers Vader mentioning that Kenobi's physical form disappeared and that Kenobi cautioned Vader that "if he struck him down, he would become more powerful."
The Emperor questions if this is a deceptive Jedi tactic. Even with Kenobi gone, the Emperor remains disturbed that Jedi Master Yoda remains free and wonders about his hiding place within the galaxy. He further contemplates whether any other Jedi managed to survive the Great Jedi Purge. Despite these concerns, the Emperor determines that Kenobi's death will signify a new era of unwavering Imperial power and pledges to obliterate the Rebellion completely.
He rejoices in the fact that Lord Vader's cleverness has located the rebel base situated on Yavin 4. He anticipates adding Yavin 4 to the list of locations devastated by the Death Star, alongside Jedha, Scarif, and Alderaan. The Emperor promises to force the galaxy to submit, with the Galactic Empire serving as his instrument, fueled by the dark side of the Force. Encouraged by Kenobi's death, the Emperor vows to conquer both the rebels and the entire galaxy.
