Patrol 341

Jan Ors is responsible for the destruction of Patrol 341's speeder bikes. Patrol ZAM-341, otherwise known as Patrol Zulu, Able, Mary 341, served within Jerec's battle group during 5 ABY when they secured the planet of Ruusan. Imperial Lieutenant Aagon held command over it.

History

The patrol was composed of skimmer Zeta 19, which was under the leadership of Lieutenant Aagon and operated by a squad of stormtroopers including helmsman Sergeant Forley and gunner [Leeno]. Two speeder bikes provided escort.

Not long after the Battle of Fort Nowhere, while Jerec was occupied with his search for the Valley of the Jedi, the patrol was tasked with patrolling a region characterized by ravines and gullies. Aagon defied these orders, diverting his patrol ten klicks to the north, an area with rocky terrain known as a gathering place for the native Bouncers. His intention was to allow his men to hunt these natives, relieving the boredom of their patrol duties. Unbeknownst to them, a group of outlaw settlers who had fled from Fort Nowhere were also present, seeking contact with the natives, and they observed the patrol's approach.

Upon spotting the group of creatures bouncing in the air, Aagon exclaimed with excitement and initiated the hunt. The two bikes commenced firing, shattering a rock pile, and then diverged, moving east and west. The group of bouncers, feeling certain of their doom, huddled together, anticipating their imminent slaughter by the skimmer.

Meanwhile, the group of colonists witnessed these actions, and Jan Ors, filled with rage, resolved to rescue the defenseless creatures.

Ors managed to hit one of the bikes with her blaster rifle, taking the patrol by surprise. Aagon deduced that Rebels were concealed behind the rocks and ordered the skimmer to land. As the troops took cover behind some rocks and advanced with six troopers, the skimmer provided covering fire, pinning down the Rebels from the rear. The skimmer's fire resulted in at least one Rebel casualty.

The remaining bike was disabled through a deception orchestrated by Ors and young Portia. The column eventually came under attack from behind by the group led by Katarn, beginning with RW957. Forley and Leeno, left unguarded, were assaulted by the bouncers.

During the subsequent night, the Rebels interred the dead and camouflaged their positions to eliminate any traces of their presence. All the equipment they recovered was loaded onto the skimmer, which was then commandeered by Grif Grawley.

Due to their failure to return or respond to radio communications, the Imperial forces on Ruusan dispatched probe droids and four low-altitude craft in a standard search pattern, yet they found no evidence of the patrol. Jerec demanded an explanation for their disappearance. Approximately forty-two hours after their scheduled return, Sariss assigned Yun to investigate the badlands and employ his intellect to ascertain what had transpired.

Behind the scenes

The patrol and the resulting skirmish are referenced in the novella Dark Forces: Jedi Knight and later in the Dark Forces: Jedi Knight audio drama. The patrol's designation is initially not specified.

Discrepancies exist between the two portrayals of the skirmish. In the novella, the vehicle appears to be an open skimmer; only a single bike is targeted at the start of the skirmish, and the Rebels launch a stealthy attack on the squad of Stormtroopers. In the audio adaptation, the vehicle is described as an "armed patrol craft" named Zeta One Nine, which is implied to be an enclosed vehicle; both bikers are shot at the beginning of the skirmish, and Katarn later surprises the Stormtroopers, killing them all with his lightsaber.
