Pieter, a male Ming Po, held the position of Chieftain in Ming Po Town located on the planet Carlac. During the Clone Wars conflict, he endeavored to maintain neutrality; however, the Mandalorian Death Watch established a base on Carlac and began acts of aggression, including bullying and kidnapping inhabitants of Pieter's town, which greatly infuriated him. Seeking to protect his community, Pieter confronted Pre Vizsla, the leader of the Death Watch. Vizsla intended to kill Pieter as punishment for his defiance, but the Chieftain's granddaughter, Tryla, gave her life to safeguard her grandfather. Subsequently, the Mandalorians set fire to the Ming Po town, but Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi Padawan, along with her companion Lux Bonteri, rescued Pieter and his people.
Pieter's initial appearance was in "A Friend in Need," which is the fourteenth episode within the fourth season of the Star Wars The Clone Wars television series. Phil LaMarr provided the voice for this character.
His name drew inspiration from Piter De Vries, a character featured in the Dune franchise.
In the earliest version of the script for the episode "A Friend In Need," the alien village was originally conceived to be populated by Yarkorans, sometimes spelled "Yakoran" in certain concept artworks. These villagers were designed to be empathetic and relatable, eventually leading to their replacement by the Ming Po people.
