Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate served as a construction material. The Galactic Republic's clone troopers utilized M8 Combat Knives during the Clone Wars, and their handles were constructed from flat black polycarbonate. Furthermore, BlasTech Industries' CS14 "Ghost" light blaster pistols incorporated lightweight polycarbonates alongside sensor-proof alloys in their construction. The manufacturing of weapons, including the GALAAR-15 blaster carbine and the smoke grenade, also relied on polycarbonate. Certain components of speeder vehicles, such as the Moll K-20 power generator, the A-7 steering system, and the ion hyper accelerator, also made use of polycarbonate.

In the year 3 ABY, merchants across the galaxy, including those on planets such as Toshara, Kijimi, Tatooine, and Akiva, commonly sold this material for seventy credits per unit.

Behind the scenes

The first mention of polycarbonate within the new Star Wars canon occurred in Heir to the Jedi, a novel penned by Kevin Hearne in 2015. Prior to this, it had appeared within the Star Wars Legends continuity, initially referenced in the 2013 Star Wars: Edge of the Empire supplement titled Enter the Unknown, authored by Sterling Hershey. The material later appeared as an inventory and upgrade item in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft.
