Originating from the Hutt Space moon of Nar Shaddaa, Purlah Soup was a soup variety prepared using swamp lentils, and its origins are traced back to the Feast of Prosperity. This soup was traditionally dished out to onlookers at the gladiatorial Grakkus Arena, situated on the moon, where they would eat it while spectating the battles.
Chef Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac, incorporated a recipe for Purlah Soup into his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, published in 35 ABY. This inclusion followed his tour of Hutt Space, arranged by the Hutts, which was a segment of a broader culinary exploration of the galaxy that occurred between 34 ABY and 35 ABY. By the time his cookbook was released, both the Feast of Prosperity and the soup itself were regarded as relics of the past.
The recipe for Purlah Soup was developed for the 2023 publication Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, authored by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak, featuring photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe rendition of the soup recipe calls for ingredients like olive oil, a diced medium yellow onion, a diced yellow bell pepper, diced medium carrots, diced medium celery stalks, minced garlic cloves, dried basil, cumin, oregano, paprika, granulated sugar, thyme, dry [[Wikipedia:Green lentil|green lentils}}, stewed tomatoes, vegetable broth, kosher salt, black pepper, and fresh basil. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, swamp lentil soup was introduced as a component of the Feast of Prosperity event through Patch 6.1.4 of the Onslaught expansion in BioWare's massively-multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars: The Old Republic. This addition to the game occurred on October 20, 2020.
