This lightsaber with a green blade was originally crafted by Qu Rahn, a Jedi Master. It was then passed down to Morgan Katarn, who in turn bequeathed it to his son, Kyle Katarn. Kyle wielded it during his duel against the Dark Jedi adversaries Yun, Gorc, Pic, and Maw. Ultimately, Boc Aseca was responsible for its destruction.
The lightsaber's hilt was primarily composed of metallic silver, featuring black accents and a copper-colored section near where the blade emitted. A flat 'spine' extended along a substantial portion of one side of the hilt, and a ring was affixed to the pommel.
Jedi Master Qu Rahn, at some point, constructed a lightsaber for his own use, distinguished by its green blade. Around 1BBY, after encountering Morgan Katarn on Sulon, Rahn believed that Katarn's son, despite his Imperial training, would eventually choose a different path. Consequently, Rahn entrusted Katarn with his lightsaber, opting to use another lightsaber that previously belonged to his own Master, Yoda. Morgan concealed the lightsaber within his residence, specifically inside the family droid, WeeGee. In a holorecording, Morgan bequeathed the lightsaber to Kyle Katarn, encouraging him to use it for the benefit of others.
The lightsaber remained hidden throughout the raid on Sulon and Morgan Katarn's capture. It also remained hidden during the ransacking of the homestead by the Seven Dark Jedi and the Grave Tuskens in 5 ABY, who were searching for the location of the Valley of the Jedi. Kyle discovered the lightsaber after reactivating WeeGee and viewing his father's holorecording, while on a mission to prevent Jerec from harnessing the Valley's power.

Kyle decided to put the weapon to the test, employing it alongside his other weapons to fight his way out of the homestead and through the irrigation channels. Kyle carried it throughout his mission on Sulon, through Barons Hed, and later used it in his duel against the young Dark Jedi Yun. Katarn also used the lightsaber in his pursuit of 8t88 on the Sulon Star, and then against the Dark Jedi "brothers," Gorc and Pic.

Katarn wielded the saber during his mission on Ruusan, utilizing it for defense in his battle against Maw. After slaying Maw in a fit of anger due to Maw's taunts about his father's death, Jerec urged Kyle to kill the captive Jan Ors with the saber and embrace the dark side. Kyle refused, however. After escaping Jerec, Kyle crashed the Moldy Crow, and the lightsaber was subsequently destroyed by Boc Aseca with a rock. Following Yun's sacrifice, Kyle adopted Yun's lightsaber for the remainder of his mission, until he constructed his own lightsaber.
