Gorc

Gorc, hailing from the planet Pzob, was a male Gamorrean who possessed sensitivity to the Force. After departing his homeworld alongside his elder sibling, Thok, Gorc journeyed across the galaxy, initially serving as an experimental subject for a scientist known as Pineas Pontak, and subsequently as a muscleman for the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure on Tatooine. However, following a brawl in a cantina that landed the brothers in hot water, Thok betrayed Gorc, selling him to the Galactic Empire. Consequently, the Galactic Emperor Palpatine's "monster-maker," Cronal, mutated the Gamorrean into Sithspawn. This transformation resulted in Gorc sharing genetic material, skills, and traits, along with a Force-based symbiotic connection, with Picaroon C. Boodle, a fellow test subject of the Kowakian monkey-lizard variety. This bond led to Gorc and Pic being known as "the Brothers of the Sith." The "twins" were then pressed into the service of Jerec, a Miraluka Inquisitor, and as part of his Dark Jedi team, they aided him in his quest to locate the legendary Valley of the Jedi, a source of immense power that Jerec intended to exploit for his own purposes.

In 5 ABY, Jerec tasked Gorc and Pic with deactivating 8t88, a droid information broker—a mission they effortlessly accomplished aboard Jerec's personal freighter, the Sulon Star. However, Kyle Katarn, an aspiring Jedi attempting to thwart Jerec, tracked 8t88. Gorc attempted to assault Katarn using his massive lightclub, but Katarn killed him with a shot to the face from his Bryar pistol.

Biography

Early life

Gorc often carried his "brother" Pic on his shoulder.

Gorc was a male Gamorrean born on the planet of Pzob, a Gamorrean colony. Gorc, a member of the Skunnt clan, possessed an unusual trait for his species along with his older brother Thok: Force-sensitivity. Initially unaware of their abilities, Thok, considered the more intelligent of the two, eventually recognized their potential when he inadvertently expelled a fireball into the snout of his rival Scumbo. Believing they could utilize their powers for personal gain, Thok acquired a universal transliterator and took Gorc off-world. Gorc and his brother initially found employment as test subjects for Doctor Pineas Pontak, a scientist on the planet Zlarbv IV. As part of his Pontak Hypergland development, Pontak subjected the pair to painful experiments, injecting their bodies with alien secretions, which unexpectedly caused Gorc and Thok's muscles to swell when enraged. Dissatisfied with the Doctor's methods, the brothers eventually departed and relocated to the desert world of Tatooine. There, Gorc and his brother encountered Ortugg, another Gamorrean, who recruited them as bodyguards for Jabba Desilijic Tiure, a notorious Hutt crime lord. They worked for Jabba for some time until an incident one night at the Red Moon Saloon in Mos Eisley's. The incident involved Thok, Gorc, seven barrels of Zelosian wine, and a Kloo horn, resulting in the bludgeoning deaths of three Gungans and the fricasseed remains of five Ugnaughts.

Gorc and Thok were apprehended and placed in the custody of Sariss, a local Imperial darksider known as the "Prophetess". In an attempt to save himself, Gorc's older brother betrayed him by informing Sariss of Gorc's Force-sensitivity. However, this only sparked the Prophetess' interest, and she took Gorc away. Gorc ended up in Project Chubar, a research effort by Imperial scientist Tuzin Gast aimed at providing super-intelligent, loyal, and Force-sensitive non-Humans to serve the Empire as spies. However, Lord Cronal soon took Gorc and the Kowakian monkey-lizard Picaroon C. Boodle, requiring two Force-sensitive "animal" subjects for his latest experiment. Cronal used potent Sith alchemy to experiment on the pair, eventually transforming them into Sithspawn. Both Pic and Gorc were mutated beyond recognition, sharing each other's genes, abilities, and characteristics, and possessing a symbiotic link through the Force.

After undergoing mutation and experimentation, Gorc and his "twin" were handed over to Jerec, the Miraluka Inquisitor, who, together with Sariss, trained the two Sithspawn in the ways of the dark side of the Force. The twins became members of Jerec's cadre of Dark Jedi, which included Sariss, Jerec himself, the young Epicanthix Yun, the former Jedi Maw, and the Twi'lek Boc Aseca. Jerec found Gorc and Pic amusing, considering them "quite an interesting pair." Gorc then fashioned a lightclub, a variant of the lightsaber resembling the traditional Gamorrean thogk club, as well as a set of M'uhk'gfa armor for Pic.

Search for the Valley of the Jedi

Gorc

The "Brothers of the Sith" aided Jerec in his search for the long-lost Valley of the Jedi, a Force nexus containing numerous Jedi and Sith souls. Jerec, aiming to harness the valley's power to rebuild the collapsing Galactic Empire, eventually learned that Qu Rahn, a Jedi Master, might possess clues to its location. In 5 ABY, Jerec finally located Rahn on the planet Dorlo, where the Jedi Master was on a mission with several members of the Rebel Alliance. Jerec dispatched Maw, Sariss, and Yun to capture Rahn, but the Jedi Master escaped aboard a CR90 corvette. However, the ship carrying Rahn was soon ensnared in the tractor beam of the Vengeance, Jerec's personal Super Star Destroyer.

Boc then docked a shuttle with the corvette, used coma gas to incapacitate everyone aboard, and transferred Rahn and the Rebels to the Vengeance. Before Rahn awoke, Pic pilfered his lightsaber, which had once belonged to Yoda, the Jedi Grand Master (unbeknownst to the monkey-lizard). Rahn and his Rebel companions were then escorted to the bridge of the Vengeance, where Jerec began questioning them about the valley. Rolanda Gron, a Klatooinian technologist among the Rebels, defied Jerec, leading the Miraluka to order Gorc and Pic to kill him. Just as Gorc prepared to strike the Rebel with his club-like lightsaber, Pic unexpectedly lunged at Gron, stabbing him in the throat with his Sith dagger.

The remaining two Rebels—Nij Por Ral, a linguistics expert, and Duno Dree, a young pilot—were executed by Yun and Boc. Rahn was left alone and beaten to his knees by the Dark Jedi. Despite this, the Jedi Master refused to divulge any information, so Jerec used the Force to rip information from Rahn's mind. Rahn then unexpectedly Force-pulled Yun's lightsaber and attacked Jerec's Dark Jedi, swiftly defeating Boc, Maw, and Sariss. When Gorc attempted to attack the Jedi, Rahn easily disarmed the Gamorrean. At that moment, Jerec intervened and killed Rahn.

From Rahn's mind, Jerec discovered that Morgan Katarn, a farmer he had killed years ago, had located the valley and hidden the map leading to it in his home on the planet Sulon. To this end, Jerec hired 8t88, a droid information broker, to locate and decipher the map. After the droid completed his objective, Jerec instructed him to proceed to Jerec's personal cargo ship, the Sulon Star, to receive his payment. In reality, Jerec dispatched Gorc and Pic to dispatch the droid; the twins were also tasked with eliminating Kyle Katarn, Morgan Katarn's son and an aspiring Jedi, who was attempting to stop Jerec. 8t88 soon arrived at the Sulon Star on a shuttle and found Pic and Gorc in the wardroom; Gorc remarked that Jerec had taught them well, pointing out that the Dark Jedi could sneak upon anyone. 8t88 requested his pay, and Pic sarcastically replied that they had it before decapitating the droid.

Showdown

Gorc and Pic on the Sulon Star

Guided by the spirit of the deceased Rahn, Kyle Katarn defeated Yun and tracked 8t88 to the Sulon Star, seeking the information that would lead him to the Valley of the Jedi and Jerec. Katarn arrived in the corridor where 8t88 had been beheaded, where Gorc and Pic lurked in the shadows. As Katarn approached the droid, its head fell off its shoulders, landing on the floor. Gorc then emerged from the shadows and taunted Katarn, saying they knew he would like to see the droid one last time, took it's head and fed to Grendel his pet Hornagaunt, who digested it. attempted to crudely attack Katarn with his large weapon. However, Gorc overestimated his ability to defeat his opponent and demonstrated his lack of intelligence by standing in the path of Katarn's Bryar pistol. Katarn shot Gorc in the face, instantly destroying the Gamorrean's brain and killing him. Gorc's death drove Pic mad, and he attacked Katarn with his Sith dagger, but was soon killed himself.

Legacy

Katarn ultimately succeeded in killing Jerec and freeing the spirits of the Jedi trapped in the valley. The young Jedi Knight considered his duel with Pic and Gorc extremely challenging and felt resentment towards Mon Mothma, the leader of the Rebel Alliance, for not fully acknowledging his efforts. Katarn left Gorc and Pic's bodies on the Sulon Star, which eventually crashed near the valley. Years later, when Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Master, discovered that Pic had possessed one of Yoda's lightsabers, he dispatched a squad of Jedi to retrieve it.

Personality and traits

Gorc facing to Katarn's Bryar pistol

Gorc, in many ways a typical member of his species, was a cruel individual who enjoyed fighting and disliked droids. A blue-eyed Gamorrean, Gorc was very heavy and slow, standing over three meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms. In contrast to his size, Gorc was somewhat dim-witted, even more so than his older brother, a trait he demonstrated by standing in the way of Katarn's blaster. Gorc preferred to avoid conversation, usually leaving it to Pic. He was the less aggressive of the pair, but no less dangerous, as he was unafraid to slaughter his enemies. Over time, Gorc and Pic's bond became more than just a dark side connection—it could almost be described as friendship. Pic, who considered himself the "older" brother, deeply cared for his slower sibling and protected him from abuse. In return for his kindness, Gorc gifted Pic the set of M'uhk'gfa armor he had crafted himself.

Powers and abilities

Gorc and Thok's Force-sensitivity was evident even when they resided on Pzob. Their skin tended to develop a unique reddish hue when they were filled with rage. Later, as a side effect of Doctor Pontak's experiments, Gorc's muscles also began to swell dramatically whenever the Gamorrean became enraged. Trained by Jerec and Sariss in the ways of the dark side, Gorc and Pic—despite their almost comical appearance—were a deadly duo. Pic was quick, agile, and intelligent, while Gorc was extremely powerful. Gorc rarely moved or spoke, but when Pic roused him, the duo worked together as a team, covering all angles and each other's weaknesses. Gorc wielded a long and thick orange-bladed lightclub, using it to deliver slow yet powerful strikes at his enemies, whom he preferred to immobilize with Force Grip first. When injured, Gorc could use the Force to heal himself. Gorc could also conceal his presence within the dark side, avoiding detection by other Force-sensitives. He demonstrated this ability on the Sulon Star while hiding from Katarn.

The bond between Pic and Gorc allowed them to be aware of each other's location, senses, and feelings at any given time. It also amplified their powers when the twins were near each other. However, this bond also had negative effects; each time one brother used the dark side, he further corrupted the other, and vice versa. Additionally, each time one Sithspawn was injured, the other was forced to share his pain.

Although he rarely communicated, Gorc could speak three languages—Basic, the Vregg dialect of the Gamorrean language, and Sith. Apart from his use of the lightclub, Gorc was also proficient with a wide range of other weapons, including blaster pistols, blaster rifles, vibroweapons, and even some primitive and simple weapons. Despite his slow wit, Gorc was also a masterful craftsman, single-handedly constructing Pic's suit of M'uhk'gfa armor and his own lightclub.

Equipment

Gorc's preferred weapon was a lightclub, a lightsaber variant resembling the traditional Gamorrean thogk club, which he constructed himself. For protection, he wore chest armor, a helmet, and a chin guard.

Behind the scenes

Gorc character concept art

Gorc made his first appearance in the 1997 video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, developed by LucasArts, where he was entirely rendered using computer-generated imagery. Gorc is the only Dark Jedi in the game who does not speak. He is credited as "himself" in the game's credits. Gorc later appeared in Dark Forces: Rebel Agent, the 1998 novella adaptation of the first part of the game, and its audio drama adaptation. Gorc's silent nature is maintained in the novel, where he only grunts. However, in the audio drama, Gorc has several lines and is voiced by Gary Groomes. Additionally, Gorc was briefly mentioned in the second part of the game's adaptation, the Dark Forces: Jedi Knight novel and audio drama. The Dark Forces Saga, a series of game scenarios released by Wizards of the Coast on their web site, expanded on Gorc's backstory.

Gorc's death differs between Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II and Dark Forces: Rebel Agent. In the game, Katarn fights both Gorc and Pic with his lightsaber, and either can be killed first. In the novel, Katarn shoots Gorc in the face with his blaster as Gorc emerges from the shadows.

According to Abel G. Peña, Pic and Gorc may have been inspired by Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1988 comedy Twins, with one villain being tiny and the other huge.

When Abel Peña was writing the backstory for Gorc and his companion for the Dark Forces Saga, he re-used the term Sithspawn, originally a curse word used by Corran Horn in X-Wing: Rogue Squadron, which was revealed to mean a monstrosity created through dark side magic in Tales of the Jedi Companion. Peña brought back the concept of Sithspawn, coupling two of the aliens seen in Jabba's Palace during Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi to create the "Brothers of the Sith."

The article Building a Better Jedi that appeared in Star Wars Insider 31 provided Gorc's height as 8 feet, which roughly equals 2.4 meters. However, his entry in The Dark Forces Saga later contradicted that information, stating that Gorc was over 3 meters tall. This article uses the more recent The Dark Forces Saga's height.
