Querdan Dei

Querdan Dei, a male Human, entered the world on Kesh during the year 4 ABY. By 44 ABY, he had risen to the rank of Sith Saber, frequently finding himself tasked with challenging and often thankless missions.

Biography

Under the command of fellow Sith Saber Gavar Khai, Dei became part of a fleet. Khai's assignment for Dei was the location and assassination of Queen Mother Tenel Ka Djo. This mission aimed to thwart the birth of a Jedi Queen, a vision foreseen by High Lord Sarasu Taalon in a Force vision. To accomplish this, he was provided with the Cryptic Warning, one of two EE-104 Fisheye stealth ships seized by the Lost Tribe. After several days of observation in the Hapes system near Hapes, Dei and his crew – including his son Fardan – detected a flotilla of Hapan Battle Dragons departing the planet. They deduced that Tenel Ka was aboard, and that their destination was Klatooine.

Upon tracking the Battle Dragons to Klatooine, Dei instructed Fardan to approach the planet using stealth. They then followed a landing craft that had been deployed from one of the Battle Dragons. After landing outside the camp where the shuttle had landed, Dei and his team determined that in addition to Tenel Ka, the Millennium Falcon was also present, indicating the presence of Jedi Knight Leia Organa Solo and Captain Han Solo. Leaving the ship, Dei observed the Hapan shuttle from a nearby ridge. He noticed a group of five Humanoids, consisting of four adults and a child of indeterminate gender, along with two droids, all watching the ship. He then witnessed the shuttle opening, with the four adults taking positions around the ramp while the child and the droids entered the vessel. Intrigued, Dei wondered about the child's identity. An hour later, the child emerged, and Dei attempted to follow the child and its protectors through the camp but was unsuccessful.

Dei then went back to the Cryptic Warning and requested information about the camp from his crew. His archive analyst, Sazat, informed him that it was the site of an informal negotiation assembly aimed at determining the planet's future following a uprising by the native Klatooinians against their Hutt overlords. Fardan briefed him on the camp's defenses, noting that it was relatively low-tech, save for the shield and weapon emplacements, and that there was a significant amount of communication traffic emanating from the camp's various factions. Dei concluded that he would need to infiltrate the camp and find a way to assassinate Tenel Ka on the ground, as the shields would prevent an aerial assault. He requested a disguise to facilitate his infiltration, and Viti, the youngest member of his crew, told him that she had created an identity for him as a journalist for Heuristic Financial Analysis, reporting on the economic repercussions of the slave revolt. To prevent complacency, Dei instilled some fear in her by questioning the quality of her work and the attractiveness of the profession. Viti began to justify her choice, but Dei assured her that he was joking and that she had done well. He then gave the recordings of his monitoring to Fardan and Sazat, instructing them to gather as much information as possible.

The following day, Dei infiltrated the camp, concealing himself in the shadows of a drinks tent from which he could observe the negotiation tent. He paid a Klatooinian child to throw a ball toward the delegates as they approached the tent, allowing him to assess their guards' reactions. One guard jumped on the ball, while the others shielded the delegates. Dei recognized that the two droids belonged to the Solos and noticed them moving to guard one of the cloaked figures in the delegation. He deduced that this must be Tenel Ka, and was intrigued by the droids' concern for her safety and her interaction with them after the incident. Dei began to formulate a plan involving the droids and waited in the tent until all the nearby onlookers had left, except for the boy he had recruited. He paid the child and told him that he might need his services again. He returned to his ship and met with his crew. Fardan informed him that the two droids were R2-D2 and C-3PO, and that they had served the Solos for many years. Dei finalized his plan, ordering Fardan to strip the Cryptic Warning of non-essential equipment for sale to raise bribe money. He also instructed his chief engineer, Tooley, to modify a missile into a bomb capable of destroying everything within a three-to-five-meter radius.

Dei captured C-3PO, and after deactivating him, he placed the bomb Tooley had created inside the droid, along with a camera in the droids optics. He then paid a 2-1B surgical droid from a droid rights group to take C-3PO and claim to have captured him for their cause. Dei monitored the droid, and two minutes before its scheduled reactivation, the child he had seen, Allana Solo, arrived and rescued the droid with her security detail. Dei remained unconcerned, as C-3PO was summoned to assist Tenel Ka with translation. He waited for the droid to get close enough to activate the bomb. As he waited, he noticed Allana's resemblance to Tenel Ka and concluded that she must be her daughter. Dei resolved to find and kill her as well. When C-3PO was in position, he reached for the detonator remote, only to find it missing. He turned to see Allana behind him, holding the remote. He demanded its return, but she refused, stating that he would not kill her. Dei asked if she was referring to her mother, Tenel Ka, and sensed confirmation in her surprise. Dei apologized, expressing regret for having to kill her and her mother, but asserting that his duty came first and that he would try to make it as painless as possible.

Dei drew his lightsaber and charged at her, but was unexpectedly attacked by Allana's pet Nexu, Anji. The creature attacked his face, knocking him down and tearing into his right eye, causing him to lose it. He managed to throw the creature off of him, but lost his eye in the process. Filled with anger, he stood up and turned back toward Allana, only to find Leia Organa Solo standing between him and his target, her own lightsaber activated. She offered him the chance to surrender, but he refused, and she charged at him. They dueled for several minutes, and Dei was delighted by the beauty of the duel. They continued to fight until their blades locked, and when Dei spun away to his left, he realized he had made a mistake since he could no longer see out of his right eye, and lost sight of Leia earlier than he expected. Taking advantage of this, she decapitated Dei. He remained alive for several seconds, watching his back and legs before his head fell backward and rolled, with Anji being the last thing he saw. Fardan sensed his death aboard the Cryptic Warning.

Personality and traits

Dei possessed a patient nature, often wishing that his crew and family members would understand its value. Unlike many members of the Lost Tribe, he lacked ambition for personal advancement, focusing solely on promoting the interests and power of the Tribe. Dei appreciated beauty and intelligence in all things and regretted being assigned to assassinate Tenel Ka and Allana Solo, but he believed that his duty to the Lost Tribe was paramount.
