Raid on the Vulkar Base

This operation, a raid, targeting the Black Vulkar Base, was executed as a component of the strategy to rescue Bastila Shan. Shan had been captured by Republic soldiers Revan and Carth Onasi. The Black Vulkars had previously pilfered a prototype accelerator from the Hidden Beks; both gangs intended to utilize it during the Tarisian Season Opener. When Revan engaged in a meeting with Gadon Thek regarding Shan, Thek conveyed information he had received: Shan was being held captive by Brejik, who planned to present her as a personal slave to the race's victor.

Prelude

While Revan was in the undercity of Taris, they encountered Mission Vao. She was in need of assistance to liberate her friend, Zaalbar, from the sewers. In exchange, she guaranteed Revan's entry into the Black Vulkars' stronghold. After Zaalbar was rescued from the Gamorreans who had imprisoned him, he pledged a life debt to Revan. With Revan having fulfilled their part of the agreement, Mission upheld her promise, aiding the group in infiltrating the base, which necessitated defeating a fully grown rancor.

History

Infiltration

Following the rancor's demise, Revan and their companions proceeded toward the base's entrance, positioned just beyond the fallen creature. Aided by Mission, they successfully breached the base's defenses. Revan was required to navigate the corridors, engaging in combat with numerous Black Vulkar enforcers along their path. Revan ultimately located the prototype accelerator, which was being guarded by several of Brejik's henchmen, including Kandon Ark.

The proposition

Upon Revan's request for the accelerator, Kandon offered to relinquish it willingly if Revan were to join the Vulkars and betray Gadon, a proposition that Revan declined. Upon hearing Revan's refusal, Kandon instructed his subordinates to attack Revan's group, yet Revan emerged victorious from the confrontation. With no further obstacles hindering their progress, Revan retrieved the accelerator and departed from the base.

Aftermath

Having obtained the accelerator, Revan gave it back to Gadon Thek, who then installed it on his swoop bike. Gadon also presented Revan with the opportunity to compete in the Tarisian Season Opener on behalf of the Hidden Beks. Given that Bastila's life was at stake, Revan accepted Gadon's offer and secured victory in the qualifying rounds. Bastila, who had been confined to a cage and rendered unconscious by a neural disruptor, managed to break free and stood beside Revan. Brejik, displeased with the race's outcome and now aware of Bastila's identity as a Jedi, commanded the nearby Vulkars to assault Revan and Bastila, who proceeded to eliminate them all.

Behind the scenes

It is possible to enter the Vulkar Base without having to kill the Rancor by simply walking past it close enough to trigger its AI to back up without allowing it to attack. This article, however, assumes 100% game completion, so it is written with killing the beast in mind.

In an alternate, dark-side, version of the raid, Revan does not kill Kandon during the base raid, but instead accepts Kandon's request to join the Black Vulkars and kill Gadon. The Black Vulkars then reward Revan with the prototype accelerator for killing Gadon and heavily damaging the Hidden Beks. However, Brejik discovers that Bastila is a Jedi, instead of finding out that Revan used the prototype accelerator to help the Hidden Beks win, and withdraws her as a prize, leading Revan and Bastila to kill him and his men.

Cut content includes a third level of the Vulkar Base in which the player would have to replace a magnetic power cell to deactivate the turrets guarding the garage. The elevator that led to this area was replaced with an armory, and the player would simply have to deactivate the turrets with a computer terminal or incapacitate them with concussion grenades.
