In the year 22 BBY, Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master, and Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, executed an unsanctioned extraction operation to free Ruug Quarnom, a former member of the Neimoidian Royal Guard, from Cato Neimoidia. Kenobi's prior mission had led him to Quarnom, during which they uncovered that the Cadesura disaster, a bombing that devastated Zarra, the capital city of Cato Neimoidia, involved weapons originating from both the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. These were the two factions engaged in the Clone Wars, a conflict in which Cato Neimoidia maintained official neutrality. Quarnom committed treason against the Cato Neimoidian government by helping Kenobi and Skywalker escape the planet with their findings, an act that resulted in her subsequent capture.
However, the [transport](/article/transport] carrying the prisoner was crippled, resulting in a crash near Kyr Uneris, though Quarnom survived. Upon learning about this incident, Kenobi and Skywalker secretly left Coruscant. When it became apparent that Quarnom was not among the deceased, battle droids were dispatched to hunt her down in the wilderness. The two Jedi intervened, eliminating the droids and saving Quarnom's life.
Ruug Quarnom, having assisted Obi-Wan Kenobi during his investigation on Cato Neimoidia, found herself arrested by her government. She was being transported as a prisoner when the transport crashed near the city of Kyr Uneris, resulting in the deaths of the other four prisoners aboard. Several days later, Kenobi and Skywalker received a datapad from Clone Commander Cody, which informed them about the crash and the unofficial report that one passenger had survived. Honoring their commitment to retrieve her if extraction became necessary, the two Jedi set course for Cato Neimoidia.
Following the crash, Quarnom managed to secure refuge among some wood and rocks, despite a potential shattered ankle. Several days after the crash, a platoon attack craft landed, deploying numerous B1-series battle droids. However, before the droids could locate the Neimoidian, Quarnom observed the lightsabers of the Jedi cutting down the droids through the mist, which was native to the surface of the planet. After four rows of battle droids were destroyed, the remaining droids noticed the Jedi and unleashed blaster fire upon them. This proved ineffective, as the Jedi proceeded to eliminate all remaining droids. Once the droids were dealt with, the two Jedi approached Ruug Quarnom closely enough for her to identify her rescuers through the fog: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
