The Roalj Temple stood in the Holy City of Jedha, a moon located in the Mid Rim. In the year 382 BBY, Sunshine Dobbs, a prospector, piloted his yacht, named the Scupper, and landed it close to the temple. The private landing field he used was owned by a donor affiliated with the Path of the Open Hand cult. Later, in 1 BBY, Guch Ydroma, a follower of Phirmism, journeyed to the Roalj Temple. There, he magically created water and bottled it for sale within the Holy City. In that same year, the Galactic Empire's Death Star battle station obliterated the city.
The Roalj Temple was situated near a private landing field belonging to a donor of the Path of the Open Hand cult by 382 BBY, during the era known as the High Republic Era. In that year, the Path journeyed to Jedha, and Sunshine Dobbs, a prospector, brought his yacht, the Scupper, to the landing field in the vicinity of the Roalj Temple. The group then initiated the Battle of Jedha while present on the moon, during which their leader, Elecia Zeveron, also called the Mother, sustained injuries.

Marda Ro, the Guide of the Path of the Open Hand, inquired about the location of the Scupper after Zeveron was reunited with her. Upon learning its whereabouts, Ro, Zeveron, and Bokana Koss, a member of the Path, started towards the starship. As they proceeded toward the temple, the Guide inwardly complained about the "long trek" they had to endure. Ultimately, the three, who were then accompanied by the creature known as the Leveler, arrived at the Scupper and departed from Jedha.
In 1 BBY, Guch Ydroma, a Phirmist, visited the temple during a pilgrimage across the desert, and he used his mystical power, which he said he was gifted with during his pilgrimage, to conjure water. He then bottled the water and labeled it with the temple's name. In that same year, this bottle was among those that Ydroma sold within the city to other believers and those who were thirsty. Also in that year, the Roalj Temple was no more, having been destroyed along with the rest of the Holy City by the Galactic Empire's Death Star battle station.
The reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, penned by Pablo Hidalgo in 2016, first mentioned the Roalj Temple, but as the "Roalj temple." The capitalization of the "T" in the temple's name was confirmed in Cavan Scott's 2023 young-adult novel, The High Republic: Path of Vengeance, which is part of Phase II of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.
