"Sands of Jakku": This is the inaugural episode of the first season of Star Wars Forces of Destiny, an animated micro-series. Its initial online release occurred on July 3, 2017 via Disney's YouTube channel. The events of this episode unfold during the timeframe of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, specifically after BB-8's rescue by Rey.
Following BB-8's liberation from Teedo, Rey and BB-8 proceed in the direction of her dwelling. During their travels, BB-8 identifies a nightwatcher worm observing them. Rey instructs BB-8 to remain still, but when the worm advances toward them, she urges BB-8 to flee.
The worm emerges from the sand directly in front of Rey, attempting to devour her. However, Rey prevents the worm from closing its mouth by inserting her quarterstaff into it. As they rapidly move away, the worm propels the [staff](/article/staff] toward them, which Rey successfully catches.
The nightwatcher worm submerges itself back into the sand and resumes its pursuit. In a sudden attack, the worm seizes BB-8 between its [teeth](/article/tooth] before retreating underground. Rey tracks the worm's path, enabling her to hurl her quarterstaff at it to expose it, resulting in the worm releasing BB-8. Rey retrieves him and ascends the All Terrain Armored Transport to reach safety. Noticing the nightwatcher worm's continued hunger, she offers it some scrap metal from the walker as sustenance.
When the worm captured him beneath the sand, BB-8 questions Rey about how she located him. She responds that she is unsure and that she must have "just been lucky," hinting at Rey's latent Force-sensitivity.
