Hellhound Two, also known as Hellhound 2, was an All Terrain Armored Transport utilized by the Galactic Empire during the Battle of Jakku. This battle represented the concluding engagement of the Galactic Civil War. Approximately three decades following this conflict, the AT-AT became the residence of a young scavenger named Rey. She gathered salvageable materials and resided within the walker, which was situated on its side within the Goazon Badlands.
Hellhound Two belonged to the Galactic Empire's collection of four-legged All Terrain Armored Transport combat walkers. Similar to other AT-ATs, this vehicle featured a grey exterior. It was armed with two heavy laser cannons mounted beneath its "chin" and two medium blasters positioned near the "temples". Operation of the craft required two pilots along with a commander, and it possessed the capacity to transport numerous stormtroopers.
While serving the Empire, this particular AT-AT was designated "Hellhound Two." It was an integral component of the Hellhound attack force assigned to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer, Interrogator. The walker was deployed to the desert planet of Jakku one year after the Battle of Endor. There, it engaged in combat against the emerging New Republic during the Battle of Jakku, which marked the end of the Galactic Civil War. Its mission was to defend the Imperial research base.
The walker met its end at the hands of New Republic A-wing pilot Odavia Anaru. After being shot down by a surface-to-air missile in the Goazon Badlands, Anaru found herself deep behind enemy lines. Seeking better protection, Anaru retrieved a rocket launcher from a fallen soldier. Using a piece of wreckage as support, she aimed at the lead AT-AT attacking New Republic commandos and launched her attack. Despite being swarmed by stormtroopers, Anaru remained steadfast, unleashing all six rockets at the AT-AT's vulnerable spots. While the walker was destroyed, Odavia Anaru perished in the effort, and was posthumously honored with the Medal of Valor.
Twenty-nine years following the Empire's defeat on Jakku, a young scavenger named Rey established a dwelling for herself within the derelict walker. After salvaging its valuable components, Rey resided in the AT-AT's troop compartment. This space functioned as her kitchen, workshop, and bedroom, the latter of which included a hammock. To prevent unauthorized entry, Rey sealed the walker's hatches and utilized its auxiliary hatch as an entryway. She repurposed salvaged fuel cells from the walker's laser-cannon energizer and connected them to a TIE fighter's solar panel to power her makeshift generator, though it demanded constant upkeep. Furthermore, she extracted the terrain sensors from the walker's feet and employed them as an early warning system. The head, secured with a cryptographic lock, contained most of Rey's most valuable possessions. However, after she became a target of the First Order due to her association with Finn at Niima Outpost, Rey was compelled to abandon the AT-AT and Jakku to join the Resistance. With her former home now deserted, the Hellhound Two was eventually taken over by rival scavengers residing on the desert planet.
Hellhound Two made its debut in the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. Initially painted in gray, the set designers were forced to switch to a metallic paint due to the salt plains of Abu Dhabi, where the Jakku scenes were shot, to ensure visibility. A scaled-down replica of the homestead was also constructed.
