During the time of 3 ABY, a group of starfighters designated as Scavenger, a call sign used by the squadron, was comprised of multiple R-41 Starchaser craft. Their assignment involved providing protection for the pirate transport named Pelican, as it undertook a mission to recover a damaged Imperial Viper probe droid in the vicinity of the Saila Na system. Regrettably, all the squadron's ships were annihilated by the YT-2000 light freighter Otana, piloted by Rebel Alliance pilot Ace Azzameen of the Azzameen family, amidst a conflict over the probe's retrieval.
This squadron, equipped with six R-41 Starchaser starfighters, functioned as an escort unit in 3 ABY. Following a battle between forces of the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic near an Alliance hospital platform, the squadron was assigned to accompany the Muurian transport Pelican, a pirate vessel. Their mission was to recover a Viper probe droid of Imperial origin that had been stranded close to the Saila Na system. However, Ace Azzameen, a flight officer in the Alliance, and his droid copilot, MK-09, arrived in the system aboard the YT-2000 light freighter Otana, pursuing the same objective.
Several R-41 Starchasers, identified by the Otana under the call sign Scavenger, detached from their formation to engage the intruding freighter. Two remained with the Muurian transport, attempting to flee with the probe droid pod. Before the Pelican could escape the system, Azzameen destroyed the transport and a significant portion of Scavenger. With only one R-41 Starchaser remaining, the last fighter attempted to escape with the probe, but MK-09, operating the Otana's turret cannons, destroyed the R-41 before it could succeed. With Scavenger defeated, the Otana retrieved the pod and departed the sector.
The squadron's initial appearance was in the video game Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance released in 1999. However, neither the game itself nor the associated Prima Games guide provided a specific name, referring to it only as Scavenger, the designation used by the Otana. The squadron's role in the game is to challenge the player during a simple retrieval mission. Successfully completing the mission without destroying the Pelican or any escorting craft is possible. Nevertheless, the squadron's destruction is verified in an in-universe account of the events as retold by MK-09 within the Prima strategy guide.
