(His interview subjects included: George Lucas, Frank Oz, Harrison Ford, Billy Dee Williams, Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones, Natalie Portman, Anthony Daniels John Williams, Lawrence Kasdan, and Irvin Kershner.)

Chernoff also specialized in injecting humor into Star Wars Insider through his regular column, Dear 2-1B. In this column, 2-1B, the medical droid from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, addressed reader questions and voiced his frustrations about being an underappreciated figure in the Star Wars narrative. Additionally, Chernoff authored numerous pop-culture articles, exploring how Star Wars was represented or referenced in shows like The Simpsons, The Muppet Show, and publications like The Onion, among others.

In 1998, Chernoff assumed the role of Managing Editor for Star Wars Insider, overseeing the magazine's operations and shaping its editorial direction. He transitioned to the role of Contributing Editor in 2001 before departing from the magazine in 2002 to pursue a career in television.

Chernoff was a frequent contributor to Star Wars Kids, where he penned the Ask R2-D2 About The Prequels column and created profiles of Star Wars actors such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Liam Neeson, Denis Lawson, and many others. He also contributed at least one article to Star Wars Galaxy Magazine and covered the red-carpet premiere of The Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition for StarWars.com in 1997. His articles were consistently featured in official Star Wars magazines across various countries, including Japan, England, Spain, Germany, and France.

In 2002, Chernoff authored The Stars of Star Wars for LucasBooks and Random House. This book was released in conjunction with Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and included fresh interviews with the film's cast and crew, such as George Lucas, Rick McCallum, Samuel L.
