Seismic charge

SeismicCharge-SWX A seismic charge in space Seismic bombs, alternatively referred to as seismic charges, represented a class of extremely destructive ordnance. These weapons functioned by drawing in ambient sound from their surroundings and detonating in powerful, concussive waves of bright blue light, resulting in the complete destruction of everything within their range. Within a seismic charge, a vital component was the Charge Core. During a dogfight above Geonosis' asteroid field, Jango Fett deployed multiple Void-7 seismic charges from a launcher on board Slave I, his starship, in an attempt to kill Obi-Wan Kenobi. The planet Geonosis was orbited by the asteroid field.

Years later, amidst the backdrop of the Galactic Civil War, Luke Skywalker managed to secure a Utheel Rockcrusher Compact charge while on a mission to rescue the Givin operator Drusil Bephorin. He subsequently used it to obliterate an Immobilizer 418 cruiser.

Circa 9 ABY, Boba Fett, Jango's offspring, piloted Slave I to the Great Pit of Carkoon with the intention of recovering his missing armor. The Sarlacc residing within the pit tried to ensnare the ship utilizing its tentacles, but Fennec Shand countered by dropping a seismic charge directly into the sarlacc's mouth, leading to its annihilation.

At a later point, Boba picked up Din Djarin alongside Migs Mayfeld after their assault on an Imperial refinery situated on Morak. As they made their escape, two TIE fighters gave chase, but Boba swiftly eliminated the pursuing fighters by deploying a seismic charge.

Behind the scenes

Ben Burtt, the sound designer, characterized the sound produced by a seismic charge as an "audio black hole," noting that the sonic explosion is preceded by a moment of absolute silence. Burtt had been eager to incorporate this particular sound design, which he had named "Space Ether Explosions," ever since the creation of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Initially, when he showcased the sound effect intended for the destruction of Tie Fighters, George Lucas expressed his disapproval, leading to the project's suspension until the production of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
