"Single Cell," a comic book story spanning 12 pages, originally appeared in the pages of Star Wars Tales 7 and was later included in the compilation Star Wars Tales Volume 2. Haden Blackman penned the story, Jan Duursema provided the pencils, Ray Kryssing handled the inks, Steve Dutro did the lettering, and Dave McCaig was responsible for the colors. The narrative unfolds six weeks prior to the Invasion of Naboo, specifically in 32 BBY.
Nym, a Feeorin who is incarcerated aboard the Trade Federation battleship Stockade, is telling his Neimoidian cellmate the story of the events leading up to his imprisonment.
While in orbit around Maramere flying the Havoc, Nym, along with Kole and Jinkins, were awaiting the arrival of the mercenary Vana Sage and her "buyers," a group comprised of bounty hunters. The purpose of this meeting was to exchange Stygium crystals for experimental weapons.
After boarding the space station, Nym and his team met the buyers to complete the exchange. However, when Nym disclosed that he had hidden the power cells required for the weapons as a precautionary measure, a conflict erupted between the Havoc crew and the bounty hunters.
Under the threat posed by droidekas, Sage successfully captured the crew. She then dispatched Kole and Jinkins to Maramere using an escape pod, and seized the Havoc as compensation for delivering Nym into the custody of the Trade Federation.
Returning to the cell setting, Merick and Bavo show up to liberate Nym, who then makes a promise to get revenge on Vana Sage.
Due to references found within The New Essential Guide to Characters and The New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology, the events depicted in Single Cell have been incorporated into the Legends continuity.
