During the time of the Galactic Civil War, a brief battle occurred within the Kiax Nebula. This clash involved Red Squadron of the Alliance to Restore the Republic against the forces of the Tech Masters.
Not long after the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance devised a plan to move vital medical supplies using the transport named Nema. Red Squadron, under the command of Commander Arhul Narra, was assigned as its escort. Determined to prevent the delivery of these supplies, the Imperial Navy was a constant threat. To avoid Imperial detection, the Alliance Council decided on a route through the Kiax Nebula, a region generally avoided due to its hazardous conditions. The nebula's dense clouds of space dust severely interfered with sensor readings, a risk that Han Solo warned Mon Mothma against.
Pirates in the service of the Tech Masters ambushed the Alliance forces, utilizing modified TIEs. This attack resulted in the death of Duros pilot Jamman (Red Three), a recent addition to Red Squadron. Luke Skywalker (Red Five) successfully destroyed three of the attacking TIE fighters. The pirates employed quick, hit-and-run tactics, striking the X-wings before disappearing into the dense nebula. Skywalker insisted on pursuing the pirates into the cloud, leading Red Squadron to follow, which left the Nema vulnerable. Taking advantage of the X-wings distraction, the pirates were able to seize the Nema and bring it to the Tech Masters' base on Trionak.
Mon Mothma expressed her displeasure upon discovering that Red Squadron had abandoned their post to pursue the pirates, thereby disobeying a direct order. She then revealed that this was the third transport to go missing. Consequently, Skywalker and Leia Organa embarked on a mission aboard the Millennium Falcon to Trionak to conduct an investigation. They succeeded in recovering the Nema and returning it to the Alliance flagship Home One.
